How Does Karma Work In InZoi?

InZoi operates based on a karma system, meaning that the Zois under your supervision are responsible for maintaining positive interactions to produce a productive society. Kindness and generosity go a long way compared to violent acts and general bullying of other Zois. However, depending on how you want to play, it can be a lot more difficult than you think.

It’s time to go deeper into the mines.

From your own direct interactions to the free will every Zoi has, we’ll break down the karma system so you have a better understanding of how it works. This way, you can manipulate the world of the Zois with ease and shape their city to your liking.

InZoi is in early access, so details are subject to change. As such, we’ll update our guides as needed.

What Is Karma?

Karma makes the world go round in InZoi. Every Zoi has an individual tracker for Karma, which ranges from terrible to great. Bad karma is accumulated by disruptive actions, like threatening, heckling, and expressing anger at other Zois.

If you treat others poorly, you’ll receive the same in kind. Zois will be wary of you, refuse to acknowledge you, or blatantly mock you on the street. A terrible karma score tells other Zois that you’re not an honorable or respectful member of society, which will greatly impact your opportunities.

If city-wide karma gets too low, you may have to meet with the CEO outside your Zoi’s world.

On the flip side, treating Zois with kindness and care will make them like you more. The interactions you put into the Zoi’s world have more of an effect than just the direct correlation to relationships. As a whole, everything works together similar to the butterfly effect.

You can tell what kind of karma an interaction will have based on the color icon next to it. Red is negative, purple is neutral, and blue is good!

How To Increase Karma

Increasing your karma is as simple as being kind to other Zois and giving back to the community. Select the interactions tab when selecting another Zoi or your playable character to see what choices are available.

Blue interactions will increase your karma, though it will take a bit of time for the effect to grow. It can take several in-game days to bring your karma score up.

In your settings, and can adjust how likely Zois are to engage in violent acts or how karma is handled to make things easier (or more challenging)!

Additionally, violence (even unintentionally) can cause issues with your karma. If you drive manually, running over pedestrians is frowned upon. You can also try to keep your Zoi on the right side of the law by not letting them steal valuables or commit acts of fraud online.

By abstaining from immoral actions, you’ll have a much easier time building your karma. However, you can only control one household at a time, and there’s a whole city full of Zois with their own issues to deal with. Managing city-wide karma is much more time-consuming.

If a Zoi with terrible karma dies, they’ll become a ghost until they can fix their karma and move on.

How To Intervene With A Zoi’s Karma

When a Zoi’s karma is dangerously low, you can intervene using the City Menu to manage the disruptive Zoi. Every 24 hours, you can select their profile and choose to intervene, which will present them with an opportunity to increase their karma.

Whether or not they take it is another matter.

Scolding a Zoi can help set them back on the right path, but that’s not the only action you can take. When a Zoi has incredibly high karma, they can benefit from your intervention. Choosing to intervene and compliment them will give them rewards or profitable opportunities that encourage their efforts.

Refrain from intervening during 5:00AM and 6:00AM, as this is a special time for Zois. It’s unclear what the consequences will be, but your feline overlords wouldn’t express a warning for no reason.
