Whether combat is the focus or some added survivability, each set is full of unique and powerful buffs that help with all manner of challenges across the world. For those unsure about what’s right for them, here are the best skills to unlock in Atomfall.

Deep Pockets

Keep The Restocks Coming

Atomfall Deep pockets
  • Carry more crafting supplies and weapon ammo.

Thorough looting is not only a good strategy; it’s a necessity when traversing the world of Atomfall. Ammo, consumables, and a few secrets are scattered across the map and are just waiting to be collected by the player. With so much to grab, having limited space can be quite troublesome, forcing some items to be left behind.

Deep pockets solves that issue, having a simple utility function that raises the quantity of all crafting supplies and ammo types that can be carried, alleviating the need to use some items in order to collect others. Having this skill allows the player continues on adventuring for far longer without needing to return to a merchant for more heals and ammo.

7

Charisma

An Absolute Bargain

Atomfall charisma
  • The player’s items are worth more when bartering.

The trading mechanic in Atomfall is great. In other RPGs, a charisma mechanic might lower the cost of items in terms of gold value. Here, however, the player physically tips a scale in their favor or in the seller’s favor in order to negotiate a fair price for both parties.

Rebellion’s Ben Fisher discusses the gameplay of Atomfall, from the unique Leads system to the various types of weapons available to find.

This normally results in a pistol being traded for a pistol and so forth, but with the Charisma skill, players can quite easily grab a few extra pieces of ammo or some much-needed crafting materials, along with whatever item they choose to trade away. It’s not the most powerful perk, but it provides a nice boost to sales and brings quite a lot of value over a playthrough.

6

Quiet Movement

As Silent As The Wind

Atomfall quiet move
  • Reduces the sound of the player’s footsteps, making it more difficult for enemies to hear them.

Stealth is a pretty large part of Atomfall and is a useful means of moving around dangerous camps and avoiding confrontations with large groups of enemies. It can lead to some elaborate spy missions into restricted areas, or players can use it to simply take the pacifist route by dodging combat at every turn.

Quiet Movement adds an extra level of strength to sneaking, letting players tip-toe around with much more freedom and less fear that they will be detected. It opens up so many doors for some quick looting and daring escapes. It also makes takedowns a lot stronger, as it is way easier to kill an enemy from behind when they don’t know what’s coming.

5

Disarm Traps

No More Surprise Explosions

Atomfall Disarm
  • Disarm traps and harvest their crafting supplies.

Throughout the rolling hills and valleys of Atomfall, there are countless tripwires and traps dotted around to deter and detect the player when they enter areas or cross paths that the locals would rather keep to themselves. The ability to disarm them is incredibly valuable. At some parts of the game, it is impossible to cross into a room without triggering a trap, so being able to take them apart on the fly makes getting around unscathed a whole lot easier.

It even comes with the added bonus of some extra supplies, which means that, while looting and scavenging outposts for resources, any sneaky traps laid to ruin a trespasser’s day can be removed entirely and turned into useful materials for crafting consumables or even throwable weapons.

4

Draw Speed

Legolas In The Lake District

Atomfall draw speed
  • Increases bow draw speed.

Not too far into the game, Atomfall players can add a bow and arrow to their arsenal. Doing so provides a fun and powerful way of taking out enemies from afar and comes with the added bonus of reducing detectability when compared to bullet shots. However, bows come with their own drawback: The long reload time between each arrow makes them hard-to-use against enemies up close or in greater numbers.

Being able to draw the arrows faster basically transforms the bows from slow, clunky pieces of wood into viable assault weapons that can quite easily take down multiple enemies in quick succession. The fire rate is never going to compete with an SMG, of course, but it is a fun option to try out and certainly a powerful one at that.

3

Gunsmith

Some Serious Heavy Firepower

Atomfall Gunsmith
  • Unlocks recipes to craft upgraded weapons.

Upgrading weapons is an important part of progression in many games. In Atomfall, while the player can’t augment a large range of specific stats, they are able to upgrade their weapons to several tiers, ranging from rusty to pristine and adding some extra firepower and accuracy along the way.

Players will need to uncover some long-buried lunchboxes in Atomfall to complete their trophy lists and grab some additional loot.

Each time a weapon jumps a tier, the difference is noticeable, with several enemies taking fewer shots and more bullets connecting at range thanks to the higher accuracy. It’s a useful skill to pickup, as it fits several different playstyles and weapon types without tying the player down to a single weapon-type buff.

2

Quiet Takedown

Atomfall quiet takedown

  • Takedowns create less noise.

Assuming everything is quiet, and the kill can be clean, takedowns are a great way to conserve ammo and deal with threats who wander off by themselves. But despite being fantastic for taking down enemies, doing so does create a decent amount of noise, meaning that any nearby enemies will come rushing over to figure out what the commotion was.

Making takedowns much quieter adds even more power to the already strong stealth mechanic, letting the player rampage through an outpost of enemies and picking them off one-by-one while ensuring that the rest are none the wiser. And with so much ammo to spare, players won’t have to worry about running on when fighting some trickier opponents like the BARD bots that are scattered around the map.

1

Firearms Focus

Take A Breath And Fire

Atomfall firearm focus
  • Increases firearm damage when one’s heart rate is low.

Guns are a player’s best friend when taking on the countless enemies taking post on the hills and bunkers around the quarantine zone. By giving a straight buff to all weapons (assuming that the user has a low heart rate), the damage output becomes pretty significant, turning most, if not all weapons into one-shot headshotters and providing them with even more DPS against higher HP targets.

The stamina mechanic is pretty easy to manage, and keeping a low heart rate is as simple as walking away from an encounter, which means that players can enter a fight and deal serious damage, then back out to let the rate go down, only to return with the same power they started with. It’s a great skill for any Atomfall playthrough and one that should be sought out as soon as possible.
