After a successful Steam Next Fest run and a lot of hype, anime soulslike AI Limit has finally released on PC. Blending the hard-as-nails combat of FromSoftware’s finest with the anime aesthetic of NieR or Code Vein, it’s going up against the critically acclaimed The First Berserker: Khazan and a wealth of other action RPGs and, as of the time of writing, it’s certainly holding its own.
AI Limit thrusts you into the shoes of Arrisa, a mysterious semi-human lifeform known as a Blader. You’ve been sent out to Heavenswell, the last human city that survived a catastrophic, Armageddon-style event. Caked in Mud, a mysterious mineral that spawns monsters, you’re tasked with cutting a path through the horde and uncovering the secrets of this long-lost civilization and, by proxy, the origins of the Bladers themselves.
Described by one Steam reviewer as “waifu Dark Souls,” combat plays out similarly to FromSoftware’s finest, with perfect parries, blocks, and dodges forming the central pillars of the soulslike‘s gameplay. You’ll have to perfect your build using the weaponry and clothing you discover on your travels, chaining together attacks to enhance your Sync Rate and dish out huge amounts of damage.

Having released on Thursday March 27, AI Limit’s player count is nothing to smirk at. At the time of writing it’s peaked at 7,119 concurrents, propelling it up the Steam charts and making it a worthy rival to Nexon’s The First Berserker: Khazan.
It hasn’t been an easy start, though, as initially the game was sitting at 46%, positioning it in the ‘Mixed’ category. Early reviews noted that, despite killing the first boss, it wouldn’t actually die, leaving them trapped in its unique arena. Others claimed to be stuck in a never-ending loading screen, which eventually leads to another crash.
Sense Games has since fixed these issues, however, noting that you’ll have to “exit Steam and update the 6.5GB patch.” Said update has caused a U-turn overnight, with the AI Limit now sitting at a ‘mostly positive’ 77%.
AI Limit is out now on Steam, and is currently available for 10% off, bringing it down to $31.49 / £26.55. You can get it here.
