Z-A Reveals How Lumiose City Changes at Night

Summary

  • Lumiose City in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will change at night.
  • That’s when players can enjoy the Z-A Royale battle system.
  • The goal is to win battles and rank up from Z to A.

In a recent Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s version of Lumiose City will change during the night. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the next installment in the Legends series of Pokemon titles, following up Pokemon Legends: Arceus from 2022. Pokemon Legends: Arceus was met with critical acclaim for its unique and refreshing gameplay, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A aims to continue that innovation.

Lumiose City returns from Pokemon X and Y in a sprawling urban environment shared by people and Pokemon alike. Since fans last visited the city in Pokemon X and Y, an urban redevelopment project has begun by a company called Quasartico, Inc. The player is tasked with assisting with this project, under the guidance of Jett and Vinnie, Jett’s secretary. Jett and Vinnie are just two of many important characters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s story. Not much is known about these two characters at this time, but they will no doubt play a pivotal role in the overall plot.

Nintendo released a new trailer that showcased a new interesting feature teased in a previous trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The Z-A Royale is a new in-game battle system that only takes place during nighttime. Highly skilled trainers can be found in Battle Zones that appear across the city, waiting for a chance to battle. Players can be spotted by other trainers, forcing them to enter battle, or can sneak up on one another to launch a surprise attack. Along with the usual super-effective moves trainers can use, they can also have the option to Mega Evolve for an even bigger power boost. A rank will be awarded from Z to A as players progress through the royale, with the top trainers set to have a wish granted.

Lumiose City Has Something Special Going for Trainers at Night

Some characters return from the original cast of Pokemon X and Y. AZ returns with his Floette, running a hotel called Z, the main base for the character in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The player faces a rival of the opposite gender, looking eerily similar to the other gender’s model. Depending on their choice, either Urbain or Taunie will be the player’s counterpart, who both live and work alongside the player at AZ’s hotel.

Players roaming the city will engage in a new real-time battle system in Pokemon Legends: Z-A with trainers all over the urban metropolis. The action-packed battles feature a list of moves the player can use on the fly, which have a cooldown after being selected. Dodging and positioning attacks are crucial to this new battle system, giving players a fresh take on the staple of the series. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is expected to launch sometime this year.
