There are a lot of pre-existing families in The Sims franchise, with many of them appearing in several games. One such family is the Crumplebottoms, who made their first debut in The Sims: Hot Date, which was an expansion for the first game in the franchise. This was back in 2001, so the Crumplebottoms have been around for a while.
Since then, the Crumplebottoms have appeared in other games, with the same general appearance and personality. Who are these cranky people though? Here, we are going to take a look at all you need to know about the Crumplebottoms in The Sims.
The Sims: Hot Date – Miss Crumplebottom
As mentioned above, the Crumplebottom name first appeared in The Sims: Hot Date. In this game, she’s just referred to as Miss Crumplebottom, but her first name is Agnes. As an old widow, Agnes is cranky and ready to take her anger out on someone else.
If you were playing The Sims: Hot Date and using romantic interactions in public, Agnes could walk up, scold you, and hit you with her iconic purse. She didn’t always appear, but when she did, you had to remain vigilant.
The Sims 2 – Prudence, Simon, Agnes, & Cornelia
In The Sims 2, we learn about Prudence, Simon, Agnes, and Cornelia. All have the Crumplebottom name except Cornelia, who married Gunther Goth. Together, Cornelia and Gunther had Mortimer Goth (as their son), which ties these two iconic families together.
Prudence and Simon are the mother and father of Agnes and Cornelia, which makes the latter two sisters. What’s more, Agnes is the aunt of Mortimer Goth. During the game, all four of these characters are dead though, so you can’t actually see them living their lives normally.
Mrs. CrumpleBottom
In The Sims 2: Nightlife, you can also find Mrs. CrumpleBottom. This Sim looks incredibly similar to Agnes from The Sims: Hot Date, but it’s actually someone completely different. All we know is that she is a distant relative of Agnes.
Like the Hot Date Crumplebottom, this CrumpleBottom will scold and hit Sims who do romantic things in public.
Interestingly, Mrs. CrumpleBottom functions as an object rather than a person. If you try to add her to your family, turn her into a werewolf/vampire, or alter her (including with mods), your game will corrupt.
The Sims 3: Young Agnes Crumplebottom
The Sims 3 features a younger Agnes Crumplebottom, who recently lost her husband. This version lives alone, and you can read in her biography that Erik (her dead husband) drowned during their honeymoon.
Within the game, you can also find Cornelia, Gunter, and Mortimer living together. The family doesn’t interact much with Agnes though; Mortimer is just an acquaintance with her.
In Agnes’s house, you can find an unfinished room that looks like a future nursery. This is a bit heartbreaking, as her dream of having a child never came to be. If you want Agnes to be happy, you can resurrect Erik with Ambrosia.
Beatrice, Belinda, & Bianca Crumplebottom
In The Sims 3: Supernatural, you can see three witch sisters named Beatrice, Belinda, and Bianca. There is no confirmation (or denial) that the trio is related to the Crumplebottoms discussed above.
They don’t appear on a family tree of anyone mentioned, but the last name is unique enough that they may be distant relatives, much like Mrs. CrumpleBottom from The Sims 2: Nightlife.
If Beatrice, Belinda, and Bianca are truly related to the other Crumplebottoms, it may imply that there is some magical lineage in the family.
The Sims 4: Agnes & Agatha Crumplebottom
The most recent iteration of the Crumplebottoms comes from The Sims 4. In the Cottage Living expansion, you can explore the new city of Henford-on-Bagley. Here, an older Agnes lives with her cousin, Agatha.
The existence of a cousin implies that either Prudence or Simon had a sibling that eventually had Agatha as a child. There isn’t much known about this mysterious aunt/uncle of Agnes though.
This is Agatha’s first appearance, but it’s confirmed that it’s Agnes’s cousin. Based on this, it makes sense that the Crumplebottom family is quite large, so the trio of witches above could fit somewhere on the expansive family tree.
In The Sims 4, Agnes will still hit you with her purse. Agatha, on the other hand, is flirty and outgoing.
Crumplebottom Family Tree
So, with all of this in mind, let’s look at the family tree of the Crumplebottom family.
The top of the tree starts with Prudence and Simon, who gave birth to Cornelia and Agnes. From here, Cornelia married into the Goth family, giving birth to Mortimer. This also loosely ties the Crumplebottoms to the Bachelor family, as Mortimer eventually marries Bella Bachelor (who becomes Bella Goth).
Agnes married Erik Darling, but before she could even change her name, Erik drowned and died. She remained Agnes Crumplebottom and somewhere in here, she married Robert Crumplebottom. Robert was deeply unhappy in the marriage and ran away, becoming Roberto Crinkletop, who appears in The Sims 4: Horse Ranch.
The final branches of the tree are Agatha, Mrs. CrumpleBottom, and the trio of witches. These can’t be placed in a specific spot though; they are just ‘distant relatives’.
The Sims posted a video on social media showing a younger Agnes and Robert arguing. In the video, it seems that he staged his own death and then fled on horse into the Horse Ranch expansion with the new name of Roberto Crinkletop.
Overall, that’s all we know about the Crumplebottom family. The constant in the franchise is Agnes, whose influence is found in every game.
