Severance: Every Episode Of Season 2, Ranked

Here are the best episodes of Season 2 in Severance!

Severance’s Season 2 ending continues to divide fans—but one thing everybody can agree on is there’s certainly more to Lumon that meets the eye and there’s plenty more to be revealed. Hopefully in the new season, we’ll get some answers to these lingering questions we have after Season 2.

What’s Next For Helly And Mark?

How Will They Escape From Lumon’s Grasp?

Mark and Helly reunite on the severed floor.

Fans were left stunned after watching the titular main character, Mark S., turn away from Gemma/Ms. Casey and quite literally ran away with Helly. While this in itself brings up many questions (why didn’t Innie Mark stick to the plan? Does he owe anything to Gemma if he doesn’t even remember her?), the biggest question we had while we watched Helly and Mark run away into the metaphorical sunset was: what’s next?

The two certainly can’t just hide away on the severed floor and if they attempt to leave, Helena Eagan will just put a stop to everything. So, what’s the plan? Hopefully, we’ll learn this rather quickly in Season 3.

What’s Going To Happen To Mr. Milchick?

Will He Stay Loyal To Lumon?

Mr. Milchick smiling.

The last time we saw Mr. Milchick, he was surrounded by Dylan and the Choreography and Merriment department after getting locked in the bathroom by Helly and Dylan. Clearly, he can’t overpower the group, and it looks like he might be on his own now after the death of Mr. Drummond (good riddance). The most likely scenario to play out is that Milchick will become a prisoner of sorts on the severed floor.

But that leads to another question—will Milchick stay loyal to Lumon now that there is another uprising? Season 2 explored his allegiance to the company, and we even saw him start to wave during the phone call with Outie Mark and his explosive retaliation against Mr. Drummond. Perhaps in Season 3, Milchick will join Cobel in her efforts to bring the company down.

What’s Next For Gemma?

Is She Finally Free From Lumon?

Gemma looks at Doctor Mauer in Severance.

The end of Season 1 revealed that Ms. Casey was actually Gemma, Mark’s long-lost dead wife, who was the catapult for Mark to join Lumon and become severed. Season 2 primarily focused on the efforts of trying to get Gemma back, with the help of Reghabi, Cobel, and Devon. And it actually worked — Mark, working in tangent with his Innie and Outie, was able to secure Gemma and bring her back from the severed floor.

But in a surprising twist, innie Mark turned away from Gemma and ran away with Helly, leaving Gemma screaming behind a locked door in a stairwell. Now, we’re left to wonder what’s going to happen to Gemma? Is she finally free from Lumon’s grasp or will a guard detain her and bring her back down below?

Who Was Irving Working For?

Is It Reghabi?

Irving calls an unknown person on a payphone.

With Irving’s swift and unfortunate departure from the MDR team, there’s still plenty of unanswered questions around his character. As it was sprinkled in Season 1 and Season 2, fans realized that Irving was aware at some level of what was happening on the severed floor. He was the one who pointed the team to the long, black hallway that led to Gemma, and he kept close tabs on the severed employees, which ultimately led him back to Burt. But who was he reporting back to?

In a quick scene in Season 2, before Irving and Burt reunite, Irving can be seen on a payphone talking to somebody about the events of what his Innie was uncovering. Fans have speculated that due to Irving being aware of his Innie memories, he’s more than likely working with Reghabi and is reintegrating in the hopes of bringing Lumon down. But the ultimate reveal about who he’s working for will have to wait for Season 3.

Will Irving Return?

Does He Know What’s Happening At Lumon?

Irving looks up at the sky in the woods in Severance.

Another question many fans are asking is if Irving will return to help the group. Towards the end of Season 2, Irving and his faithful dog, Radar, were put on a train going out of town by Burt in an effort to protect him from being found by Lumon. It’s a bittersweet moment, made all the worse when you see how desperate Irving is to hold on to the love that he and Burt had on the severed floor.

But now that Mark, Helly, and Dylan have helped rescue Gemma, will Irving make a grand return to help the team? If he is working for somebody like Reghabi, he’ll certainly hear about what happened on the severed floor, and we can only hope that love truly does transcend severance so he can come back and help the team.

What Did Doctor Mauer Mean By “You’ll Kill Them All”?

Who Is He Referring To?

Doctor Mauer smiles at Gemma.

During the chaos of Mark breaking Gemma out of the severed floor, the creepy Doctor Mauer (who oversaw the testing on Gemma) at the last second exclaimed, “You’ll kill them all.” It’s a quick moment that many might not think twice of but like all things in Severance, everything has meaning.

Don’t visit these medical doctors for a check up.

Fans have begun to speculate what exactly the doctor meant by this. Could it be that by breaking Gemma out of Lumon, Mark is inadvertently killing the multiple severed personas that Gemma developed? Or perhaps are there more people locked on the severed floor that all depend on Gemma completing Cold Harbor? Knowing Ben Stiller, this is certainly going to come back up in next season.

3

What Is Jame Eagan’s Plan For Helena/Helly?

And Why Is He So Creepy?

Jame Eagan watches over Gemma as she completes Cold Harbor.

Season 2 revealed more of the Eagan dynamic, specifically between Helena and her father, Jame, and the weight that the Eagan name carries. It’s clear that Helena will do anything to please her father, even going so far as to trick the severed employees that she’s Helly after their return from the Macro Data Refinement Uprising, a shocking reveal that we received halfway through Season 2. But what exactly does Jame want from Helena/Helly?

It’s clear he’s trying to set her up to take over the company, but it looks like his faith is wavering the more he watches Helly. He even directly tells Helly that he sees the fire of Kier in her rather than Helena. Perhaps Jame will find a way to have Helly take over the company rather than Helena.

2

What’s Up With The Goats?

Will Lorne Return In Season 3?

Lorne looks at Mark while holding a goat in Severance.

Okay, we have to address the goats. Season 1 revealed another department on Lumon’s severed floor but it wasn’t until Season 2 that we finally got more answers about this department. The Department of Mammalians Nurturability, led by a character named Lorne (played by Gwendoline Christie), seemingly tended to hundreds of goats and, in the finale, it’s revealed that these goats are used as some sort of sacrifice to honor Lumon’s founder, Kier.

But knowing Severance, there’s certainly more hidden beneath the surface. During the ritualistic sacrifice, Mr. Drummond explains that the goat’s sacrifice must “guide” Gemma’s spirit to “Kier’s door.” This certainly has to tie in with Cold Harbor, but how? Surely, this isn’t the last we’ll see of the goats and Lorne.

What Is Lumon’s End Goal With Cold Harbor?

And What Will They Do Now That Gemma Is Gone?

A file showing Gemma's link to Cold Harbor.

The ever-elusive Cold Harbor has finally been revealed — kind of. During innie Mark’s time at the birthing cabin, Cobel explains that each file Mark has completed is a room on the lower level where Gemma is, a room where Lumon hones in on each emotion and splits her mind into multiple consciousness (Innies). Cold Harbor is the last room Gemma is to complete and when she does, she will be killed.

But once Gemma steps into Cold Harbor, there’s only a baby crib in a plain white room. She’s instructed by the doctor to take it apart, all under the watchful eye of Jame. So, what’s the end goal with Cold Harbor? It’s been described as a ‘monumental’ moment for the Eagans, so there’s sure to be more that will be uncovered in the new season.
