The Scariest Monsters In R.E.P.O., Ranked

The indie co-op horror survival game, R.E.P.O., is filled with all kinds of monsters that either want to kill you or just ruin your day. A few of the monsters can be annoying to deal with, but many are downright nightmare fuel and won’t hesitate to traumatize you in any way they can.

While what scares someone in a horror game can be somewhat subjective, we’ve picked out a handful of the most terrifying monsters Repo has and ranked them in order of how scary they are. If you dare, venture forth through our list to find out who takes the grand prize for being the scariest monster.

8

Apex Predator

In its calm and cute duckling form, the Apex Predator isn’t scary, which is why it’s number eight on the list. However, the second it’s touched, it turns into a raging monster that will repeatedly attack you until you are dead, or until it calms down, whichever comes first.

Even if you’re careful not to touch the duck or hit it with an item, if there are reckless monsters around, like Animal or Bangers, the knowledge that it could turn at any moment will raise anyone’s stress levels.

7

Upscream

The way the Upscream screams at you is the stuff of nightmares. It also skitters around like a spider, which could trigger anyone with arachnophobia. Jumpscares are Upscream’s favorite tactic. Just when you think it isn’t going to strike, it’s suddenly screaming in your face.

You’ll think it’s about to chomp on you with those big, sharp teeth, but it’s all bark and no bite. That doesn’t make it any less terrifying when it lashes out, though.

6

Trudge

This guy acts like he’s the only one in charge. With his slow, lumbering steps that shake the ground, he patrols the halls dragging his large club behind him. Once he sees you, he swings his club with alarming speed, and there is no escape once you’re in his grasp.

His appearance alone will strike fear into just about anyone, especially at first glance. His strikes can do a lot of damage, too, especially if there are other critters nearby causing chaos.

5

Shadow Child

Whenever you hear a child’s giggle, you’ll know that the Shadow Child is near, and that you can’t look at it. This monster is easy to avoid, but it teleports with ease and will pop up near you when you least expect it, sometimes blocking a doorway you need to go through.

The Shadow Child has mastered the art of jump scares, and when it appears, it just stands there, silently waiting like Slender Man. While it is not the most dangerous of Repo’s monsters, it is, by far, the creepiest.

4

Huntsman

He may be blind, but his hearing is excellent, and is probably everyone’s least favorite monster in the entire game. The second he hears any sound, he shoots first and asks questions later. Once he’s targeted you, there’s no escape. And he moves so quietly, that sometimes you won’t even know he’s on top of you until you’re dead.

The dread of not knowing which sounds he’ll react to is what makes him so scary. He can pinpoint the location of a sound with deadly accuracy, and he’s always on alert.

3

Reaper

This walking scarecrow nightmare doesn’t hear very well, but she makes up for it with her slashing attack. She stalks the rooms, on patrol, always on guard with her deadly sword arms.

Like many of the monsters in Repo, she attacks on sight, screaming as she swings her swords wildly to get at you. Her swords will do a lot of damage to anything in her way. Nothing is safe when the Reaper goes on a rampage.

2

Headman

It was a toss-up between the Headman and the next monster for the number one spot, but eventually the Headman was bumped down to number two. Between the large teeth and the glowing eyes, you’ll have nightmares about this guy for days.

And let’s not forget to mention the way his mouth stretches out of his face to chomp down on his prey, or the speed with which he chases you once he’s got you in his sights. Absolutely terrifying.

1

Robe

This robed terror can singlehandedly turn a loot-gathering journey into a horror movie. It silently lurks behind every corner, stalking you when you least expect it. Or even when you do expect it.

Every turn, every corner, every dark hallway is an opportunity for the Robe to wait, silently, ready to strike. Especially on the Headman Manor map with all its sharp turns and narrow doorways. By the time you turn around and see it, it’s too late.
