Should You Fight The Bigger Or Smaller Enemy In the Weaponized Quest In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition?

There are quite a few party members in Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. And amidst all of them, there is also quite a few obsessed with the game’s mechs, Skells. That makes sense, with how much the game wants you to love them, too. They are pretty cool. But by time you’ve accepted this quest, you might not even have a Skell yet.

Choosing a Division can be hard in Xenoblade Chronicles X, so here’s the best for you!

Alexa, who you meet as part of the Weaponized mission, is also obsessed with Skells. And that obsession will send you far past the walls of NLA in hopes of testing out some new Skells. Minus the actual Skell. Here’s how to complete the Weaponized quest, and how to make it a little bit easier on yourself.

How To Start The Weaponized Mission

Speaking with Alexa in a cutscene in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

The Weaponized mission is started back in NLA in the Industrial District. It is found in the Outfitter’s Test Hangar, though you have to meet a few requirements for it to become available. First off, you need to have completed Chapter Four, The Ganglion Menace. You must also be at least level 17, and finally, you need to accept the Guinea Pigs Wanted! Basic Mission from Mission Control first.

This is an Affinity Mission, so make sure you’re prepared to do it as you won’t be able to pick up another Story or Affinity mission until it is completed.

With all of these prerequisites met, head over to the Hangar and chat with Alexa to get started. As an introduction to weapons testing, she has you battle a Skell. Thankfully, this isn’t actually an exceptionally difficult battle. After this, you have a quick conversation with Tika who hands over the Ramjet Rifle, which you must use to defeat some enemies in Sylvalum.

Should You Agree Or Object To Alexa?

Approaching Sylvalum in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

Ramjet Rifle in hand, you must travel all the way up to Sylvalum. If you haven’t been here yet, the easiest method of reaching it is by traveling north past Primordia, where you will see a trail of small islands connecting to the region of Sylvalum. There will be plenty of Ganglion enemies along the way here with levels in the 30s and 40s, though they are easy to avoid.

You need to have the Ramjet Rifle equipped for the defeated enemies to count. It doesn’t need to defeat the enemies, but it must be equipped to an active party member.

Once you arrive in Sylvalum itself, many of the enemies will be of a much lower level, with the ones you actually need to fight being around level 17 like the mission itself. Head to the objective to be presented with a choice.

Upon seeing the enemies of Sylvalum, Alexa has a genius idea. Why not take on an even bigger enemy, too? You then have the choice to agree with Alexa, or object to her decision. There are a few important things to keep in mind here. The first is that this is not choosing to fight the single bigger enemy, or group of smaller enemies. Instead, agreeing to her plan has you fighting the small group of enemies and the bigger one.

The second is that the choice doesn’t actually impact the outcome of the quest mission, but will make the mission much harder. No matter which you choose, the outcome and rewards are the same. So unless you’re looking for a challenge and a small affinity boost for Alexa, it really is better to just object.

If you object, you only have to defeat five Trump Papils. If you agree, you also have to defeat a Trump Arenatect. This enemy isn’t obscenely powerful, they just have so much HP that they will manage to whittle you down before you can. If you do choose to fight them, there are a few tips to help.

  • Bring your A-Team. Having party members that have strong abilities and gear will make all the difference.
  • Make sure to have TP Gain abilities. Being able to use Tension Skills frequently is a massive help.
  • Use Overdrive and Skells if you have them. The damage boost is what you’ll need to whittle away that HP.

If you do use a Skell for this mission, be wary of the massive level 99 Tyrant roaming around. They only aggro if you’re in a Skell, so be mindful.

After defeating your chosen enemies, head on back to Tika. She will be delighted with the data you gathered, and concludes that the Ramjet Rifle is incredibly inefficient as a weapon, but you can keep it as a souvenir if you’d like. Alongside the Ramjet Rifle as a reward, you get Alexa as a party member, 15,000 credits, and 240 EXP.

Fighting With The Ramjet Rifle

The rewards for the Weaponized mission in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

An interesting aspect of this mission is the Ramjet Rifle. It might seem, by Tika’s own admission, a pretty useless weapon. It fires very few bullets, has a massive cooldown, no battle traits, no upgrades, and no augment slots. It should be terrible, but it has one very unique aspect, and that is its TP gain rating.

Gaining TP is one of the most important pieces of combat in Xenoblade Chronicles X because it both allows you to use your Tension Arts, but also activate and Extend Overdrive. While you can make more powerful TP Gain builds, the Ramjet Rifle is great for when you don’t actually rely on ranged damage, and can instead just whip it out every few seconds for a massive TP gain. It’s not quite as useless as Tika thought.

The Ramjet Rifle originally gave a slightly higher TP gain in the original game, which has been slightly nerfed in the Definitive Edition.
