SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered Releases With New Content

Summary

  • SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is available on multiple platforms with revamped visuals, gameplay improvements, and new content.
  • The JRPG series has over ten releases, making it one of Square Enix’s most prolific, despite being considered a cult franchise.
  • The remaster includes new post-game content and gameplay additions like Parameter Inheritance and the Dig! Dig! Digger minigame.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered was announced during the Nintendo Direct, showcasing a revamped visual style, gameplay improvements, and new content. The JRPG was initially released by Square in 1999 for the PS1 and has been stuck on the console ever since. However, just like the first game which received a re-release as SaGa Frontier Remastered, the second one is following suit. When the trailer ended, it was revealed that SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered was shadow-dropped and is already available for Nintendo Switch, PS5/PS4, PC, Android, and iOS.

SaGa is one of Square’s oldest RPG series. It was born as Makai Toushi SaGa in Japan but reached Western markets as The Final Fantasy Legend. The franchise then moved on to the Romancing SaGa series, whose first two titles have already received remakes, followed by SaGa Frontier. Despite being considered a cult franchise, SaGa has over ten releases under its belt, making it one of Square Enix’s most prolific JRPG series. Just last year, two games were released, SaGa Emerald Beyond and Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, and there’s no sign of things slowing down despite all odds.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered Is Available Now

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is now available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation consoles, PC via Steam, and Android and iOS devices. The JRPG is Square Enix’s latest release at a time when the company’s lineup has been relatively empty since its strategy was reworked last year. The only title with a release window for 2025 is the upcoming Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake. Other than that, Square has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is in development, while Dragon Quest 12: Flames of Fate and Kingdom Hearts 4, both announced long ago, remain shrouded in uncertainty with no hopeful updates or release windows.

It’s intriguing to see how SaGa continues to be a consistently released series, especially after Square canceled numerous projects and suffered losses with several games that failed to meet expectations. Last year, the company devised a new long-term strategy involving multiplatform releases for the Final Fantasy series after both Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fell short of sales targets. With so much caution on its part, the attention Square gives to lesser-known series like SaGa is a bit of a head-scratcher, albeit an excellent prospect for its fans.
