Summary
- Today’s Nintendo Direct had a big reveal for a fanbase that has been starving for years.
- That reveal was for Rhythm Heaven Groove, a brand-new entry in the series.
- It’ll be a while until we get to play it, though, as it’s not releasing until 2026.
Today’s Nintendo Direct showcase revealed that a new Rhythm Heaven game, Rhythm Heaven Groove, is in development and planned for release in 2026.
Even though Nintendo is about to have its biggest showcase and reveal of all time in less than a week when it finally fully unveils the Nintendo Switch 2, that hasn’t stopped it from doing a random last-minute Direct. That Direct, which just happened, was entirely focused on the original Nintendo Switch and the games coming to it this year.

Nintendo Direct Confirms A New Rhythm Heaven Game Is Coming Next Year
One of the biggest surprises shown during today’s Nintendo Direct was the announcement of a brand new Rhythm Heaven game called Rhythm Heaven Groove. The announcement was one of the last of the Nintendo Direct, and made it clear pretty quickly that the series was finally making a return.
We saw a few brief glimpses of Rhythm Heaven in action, and it certainly looks like what you’d expect from the series. There is a bit of a downside to it all, though, as Rhythm Heaven Groove won’t be releasing until 2026. That’s going to be quite a long wait, but at least we know that it’s finally coming.
Of course, while it was great to see what Nintendo has in store for anyone who isn’t upgrading to the Switch 2 later this year, it’s fair to say that most of us are still thinking about what we might see next week. With the big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct happening on April 2, it won’t be that long at all until we know everything about the upcoming console.
