Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s latest set, Shining Revelry, is here. Trainers have 111 new cards to collect via the new booster pack, many of which are shiny variants of Pokemon, hence the set’s name. However, there’s one Shining Revelry card you’ll have to pay for.
Each new Pocket set brings in-game items and bundles along with its cards, and Shining Revelry is no different. As well as ripping open packs to collect the new cards, there are new challenges to complete, tokens to collect that will unlock items, and for those who don’t mind spending money on the free-to-play games, items and bundles that can be bought with tickets, and in some cases, real-life money.

Two new paid bundles have also been added to Pocket via Shining Revelry, each of them including exclusive items along with some Poke Gold to spend. One of the bundles is Cynthia-themed and comes with a coin, playmat, and other accessories featuring the gym leader. However, the other bundle brought to the game by Shining Revelry includes a card that can only be unlocked if you buy it.
That’s A Good Looking Mewtwo Card
It’s Going To Cost You, Though
The Mewtwo ex bundle costs £18.49 and, like the Cynthia bundle, comes with Gold and some accessories, these ones featuring shiny Mewtwo. However, you get a Shiny Mewtwo ex card thrown in. Great for those who don’t mind spending money on Pocket, but bad news for completionists who don’t as, for right now at least, the only way to get the new Mewto card is by buying it.
This card may be made available via other avenues at a later date. However, right now, the only way to get it is by purchasing its bundle.
There have been cards that can only be unlocked if you subscribe to Pokemon Pocket’s premium pass, such as the Pikachu illustration rare that many people, myself included, unlocked using the premium pass free trial. However, this is the first time one of Pocket’s pomo cards has been locked behind a bundle, and it’s a pretty expensive bundle at that.
Since Shining Revelry is still only hours old at the time of typing this, it’s unclear just how annoyed players are by this, if they’re even annoyed at all. There’s a chance that people learn about this paywalled Mewtwo, shrug, and move on. That seems unlikely, though.
If there are complaints as people learn about this Mewtwo ex card, how loud those complaints are, and how long they’re sustained, could be the key to whether anything is done about it. Pocket players were not happy about the game’s trading mechanics when they were rolled out earlier this year, and Pocket’s devs have already outlined how that system will be overhauled later this year.
