Summary
- One Piece world called Blue Planet
- Blue Planet size much larger than Earth
- Fan estimates suggest size comparable to the sun
The world of One Piece is a somewhat strange place, especially when compared to most planets in fiction. Rather than featuring large continents, the world is instead composed mainly of water, with only a few islands scattered around the landscape. Due to this, the world of One Piece, which Oda fittingly named the Blue Planet at some point, is the perfect setting for a massive pirate adventure.
However, due to the strange geography and history of the Blue Planet, some fans have wondered just how big it is. While it may seem like a simple answer, with many members of the audience assuming that the world is around the same size as the planet Earth, Oda has revealed that the true answer may not be so simple. In fact, One Piece’s Blue Planet may be much larger than fans initially expected, making the journey of the Straw Hat Pirates far more grand than ever before.

The One Piece World Is Called The Blue Planet
The Specifics Of The World Are Still Unknown
The Blue Planet has been revealed to have an interesting history, especially with the addition of Vegapunk’s message from the Egghead Arc. While the world before was probably more like a standard planet, with more continuous land masses and continents, after some event in the Void Century, the ocean began to rise, eventually leaving most of the world covered in water, save for a few smaller islands. After the rise of the ocean, those who seemingly caused the incident, the World Government, were the ones who rose to power, controlling the Blue Planet and its history.
Uhhh, the planet is called “Blue Planet”. – Oda
However, although a lot about the history of the world has been revealed, the exact size of the Blue Planet is still a mystery, leaving fans with only estimates from the community about the scale of One Piece’s world. Due to this, while some fans have fairly impressive posts that estimate the size of the Blue Planet, these results are likely inaccurate overall and are subject to change. Although Oda may give the exact size of the world in the future, this is what fans have estimated the size of the Blue Planet to be with the current information One Piece has provided.
Fans Scale The Blue Planet Using Alabasta
This Makes The Size Of The Blue Planet Much Larger Than Earth
- A Fan Scales The Blue Planet To Be Extremely Large
- It May Be Approaching The Size Of The Sun
In a post by pewdsarmy6 on Reddit, the user attempts to explain the size of the One Piece world using the country of Alabasta as a reference. In the Alabasta Arc, Vivi reveals that the main river of Alabasta is around 50 kilometers long. When compared to the overall map of Alabasta, this would make Alabasta roughly 5,000 km long at its widest point. For a real-world comparison, this would make the island roughly comparable to Australia in size, far larger than many One Piece fans initially expected.

From here, if an island this large were to exist on a planet around the same size as Earth, it would completely cover One Piece’s Grand Line. Already, it’s safe to assume that the world of One Piece is far larger than Earth. However, this user goes a step further, pointing out that Alabasta is shown as a tiny island on a map of the Grand Line, meaning the overall planet could be more comparable in size to the sun, rather than the Earth.
The Blue Planet May Not Be As Large As The Sun
Scaling With Maps Is Bound To Have Some Errors
However, with many maps of One Piece being drawn with various inaccuracies and are more to give a general idea of a landscape, trying to scale the Blue Planet with these is bound to create a few inaccuracies. Although the One Piece world is likely much larger than Earth, it seems unlikely that the Straw Hat Crew were able to navigate half the size of the sun in under a year’s time. Instead, it seems more reasonable that the Blue Planet is a lot larger than Earth, though the exact degree larger is still unknown.

Still, based on everything that Oda has given the community, this is what fans were able to conclude about the Blue Planets’ size. However, with information, like the history of the Void Century, most likely being revealed in the near future, fans may be able to create a more accurate assessment soon. Plus, if Nami does complete her dream of mapping the world, perhaps her map will include an accurate scale, answering this One Piece question once and for all.
