The others hardly ever appeared in the story, and all that makes the Boruto series jarring at times. This is especially true when considering the fact that it is important not just for world-building, but also to make the story feel like an actual continuation.

Unfortunately, the Boruto series never went down that road and fans know that this caused a big disconnect in certain instances. The author seemingly wanted to focus on the next generation ninjas of the Boruto world, but even in that sphere, only Boruto and Kawaki got solid focus. All the others were underdeveloped in the story, which went to show that even the main characters weren’t treated well in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

Although the original Boruto series didn’t focus on side characters as much, fans know that Two Blue Vortex has proven itself to be different so far. When it comes to the side cast, many characters were seen involved in the early phases. Fans saw a battle with Team 10, and even the likes of Himawari got major attention. Some sand ninjas are currently at the forefront of things, and characters like Mitsuki and Sarada, along with Konohamaru, are getting the attention they very much deserve.

This also means old characters from the Naruto era could also end up being involved in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex series soon. In fact, Ikemoto has already spoken about Kakashi’s involvement in the story in the past:

Ikemoto: It’d be a spoiler. But you have to wonder: why doesn’t Kakashi-sensei get much screen time even though he’s such a popular character? What a mystery. Not that I can say anything about it.

What Role Could Kakashi Play In The Future?

Kakashi is nowhere near his prime in the Boruto series, but he is also not weak. Fans know that Kakashi Hatake should still be a force to be reckoned with. Above all, he should be full of experience and wisdom that can help the next generation ninjas of the Boruto world.
For instance, Boruto Uzumaki can pick up a thing or two from him, while Sarada Uchiha, who recently reawakened her Mangekyo Sharingan, could learn how to control her eyes better from him in Sasuke’s absence.
Kakashi could easily have a big role cut out for him in Boruto, and fans would absolutely love it too. Whether it happens soon or later down the line, or whether the author has completely changed his mind in regards to Kakashi’s involvement remains to be seen.
