How to Get All Allies in AC Shadows

How to Get All Allies in AC Shadows

The various allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows are an interesting mix of characters. It’s possible that many players may go through the game without ever summoning an ally – perhaps they won’t even realize they can. With the wide range of abilities that Yasuke and Naoe can utilize, it’s easy for the allies to get lost in the mix. This is unfortunate, as each of the recruitable allies in AC Shadows offers their own unique combat ability, which are all extremely helpful, especially when the enemy mobs start to close in. In this guide, we’ll show you how to recruit every ally in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and explain the unique abilities they provide.

If you want to recruit every ally in AC Shadows, do not play in Canon Mode. Playing in Canon Mode takes away all choice when it comes to certain dialogue scenes, and as a result, makes it impossible to recruit at least one ally.

There are six allies that Naoe and Yasuke can recruit to help during combat. Along with Tomiko and Junjiro, they make up the League of the Hidden Blade.

  • Yaya
  • Gennojo
  • Kitsuhime
  • Oni-Yuri
  • Ibuki
  • Yagoro

How to Recruit Yaya in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Meet Your First Ally:

Yaya is the first summonable ally you can recruit in AC Shadows. She is introduced to Naoe during the search for Wada Koretake, the one-eared Shinbakufu member.

  • Introduction: “The Fatherless Monk”
  • Recruited After: “The Stray Dogs” – Once you’ve completed the search for Wada Koretake, Yaya will visit the Hideout, but will not yet be a formal ally. After completing “Heads Will Roll,” Yaya can be found on The League wheel in the Objectives menu. You’ll see her “The Stray Dogs” quest is available.
  • Important Choices: There are three important choices that you must make when speaking to Yaya. The first one comes during “Heads Will Roll.” You must select “Killing Them Isn’t Justice” when the monk is about to kill a prisoner. The second and third choices are in “The Stray Dogs.” Early in the quest, pick “We Forgive Him” when Yaya confronts the thieving priest. Finally, select “You need to forgive each other” when Yaya is yelling at Tetsuo. After selecting this, you’ll have the option to ask Yaya to work together at the end of the mission.

Meet the Fool:

You’ll first meet Gennojo during the mission to take on The Fool, the Shinbakufu member found in Yamashiro. Play through the main quest and, once the target is eliminated, you’ll be able to complete his ally missions.

  • Introduction: “The Missing Missive
  • Recruited By: Naoe
  • Recruited After: “The Godless Harvest” – The final mission after a string of quests with Gennojo, including “Swords & Sake,” and “Honor Among Thieves.”
  • Important Choices: During the “Honor Among Thieves” quest, make sure you select “I’m keeping it then” during your conversation with Gonnojo. During “The Godless Harvest,” Gennojo becomes despondent at the end of the mission. He will contemplate blowing up the rice – along with himself. You need to make sure to select “Soothe Gennojo” when the choices come up. If you choose wrong, Gennojo will be lost. Losing Gennojo is actually canon, but it means you will not be able to recruit him. Make sure to console Gennojo if you wish to summon him into combat.

How to Recruit Kitsuhime in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Two of a Kind:

Naoe and Kitsuhime have a lot in common. Both are shinobi who grew up in their fathers’ shadows. They fight similarly – though Naoe would never touch a Teppo, so uncivilized. Still, they make a great team. You’ll first mean Kitsuhime during the quest to defeat The Naginata. Make your way through the main quest, then when it is completed, start by following Shotei’s (Katsuhime’s father) missions. This will lead to Kitsuhime’s missions.

Kitsuhime can be romanced by Naoe.

ACS-Kitsuhime-Naginata
  • Introduction: “Showdown in Sakamoto
  • Recruited After: “The Diary of Lady Rokakku
  • Recruited By: Naoe
  • Important Choices: Make sure to defeat Isono Kazumasa, and all enemies, quickly. It is possible for Kitsuhime to die in this mission, locking her out as an ally.

How to Recruit Oni-Yuri in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

ACS-Recruit-Oni-Yuri

You Can Never Tell:

Oni-Yuri is a tricky companion to unlock, as she is not encountered through a main mission. Instead, you’ll encounter her through the “Sweet Lies” side quest in the Tsuruga section of Sotomo Gate, Wakasa. Following her quest to the end will unlock her as a recruitable companion.

  • Introduction: “Sweet Lies”
  • Recruited After: “Sweet Revenge” – Simply follow Oni-Yuri’s quest through to the end.
  • Recruited By: Naoe or Yasuke
  • Important Choices: Make sure to take Oni-Yuri’s side in the arguments and do not let the towns’ people inflict any type of punishment. Take the time to learn Oni-Yuri’s story. This will almost always take the form of Naoe’s replies, so it’s safe to simply pick her every time.

Return to Iga:

Ibuki is another companion that is incredibly easy to miss, as he is not introduced in any of the game’s main missions. To find Ibuki, you’ll have to make your way back to Iga – to southern Hijiyama province specifically. Yasuke can begin a relationship with Ibuki, so use him if that is something you are seeking.

ACS-Ibuki-Map
  • Introduction: “Ambush Interrupted”
  • Recruited After:”Homecoming”
  • Recruited by: Yasuke, if romance desired.
  • Important Choices: During “Ambush Interrupted,” make sure to pick “I Have Changed.” During “Homecoming,” make sure to pick “Fight with us, Kyobei.”

How to Recruit Yagoro in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

ACS-Recruit-Yagoro

Home-made Assassin:

ACS-Yagoro-Map

Once you’ve defeated every member of the Shinbakufu, and completed the “Secrets of the Blade” questline with Naoe, you should see a hidden League member appear in the Objectives menu. It mentions a shinobi who has been killing Samurai in Engyoji, Harima. You’ll find Yagoro near Maniden Hall. If you send a scout to Engyoji, they’ll reveal Yagoro’s quest, “A Blade in the Dark“.

  • Introduction: “A Blade in the Dark”
  • Recruited After: “A Blade in the Dark”
  • Important Choices: You’ll simply need to be supportive of Yagoro. After all it took to get to this point, they seemingly decided to keep the process of recruiting Yagoro relatively simple.

Remember, you can upgrade allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. To do so, build and upgrade the Dojo at the Hideout. Then, use the Ally Management board in the Dojo, or in every Kakurage, to train each ally.
