How To Complete Nobustuna’s Student Quest In Assassin’s Creed: Shadows

What makes Assassin’s Creed: Shadows a fun experience is the variety of side activities that are present in the world. These side missions aren’t just to help you gain XP, they also add depth to both Yaskue and Naoe’s stories. A good example of this can be found in Nobustuna’s Students on the Objective Board.

They give an insight into how Yaskue is as a character. These challenges might seem easy to do, but with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’ new approach to its level design, you might not know where to look. This assassination guide will help you find all of Nobustuan’s Students.

How To Start The Nobustuna’s Student Quest

A large chunk of the game opens up after you’ve met Yaskue for the second time in Act 1. When you play as him again, you’ll get to his personal quest: An Education.

As you read a letter during the mission, you’ll be sent to southwestern Azuchi to locate Yaskue’s old teacher’s home, Nobustuna Sensei. After you meet and interact with your sensei, you’ll get another quest called Nobustuna’s Students.

This quest is activated when you talk to the sensei for the second time.

Once you’ve accepted the quest, like the merchants in the Iron Hand Guild, the students will show up in their own group on the Objective Board.

If you hover over each student, you’ll find the general direction of where they should be.

Where To Find The Students

Accepting this quest will have you challenging six students in six separate duels. They are all littered around mainland Japan and can be found by simply exploring. However, some of them are in areas you may not go to, which might cause you to overlook a couple.

The location of the students might not be fixed. If you can’t find them while in the right area, you can pinpoint the spot by sending out a scout or two.

Student 1 – Marume Nagayoshi

For the first challenge, you’ll be staying in Azuchi. If you’re still at the sensei’s house, head north to Saikoji Temple and Trade Harbor. The first duel will be at the northernmost tip of this area.

As you approach him, he’ll be practicing his swordsmanship. To start the fight, talk to him, and a prompt will come up that allows you to enable the fight.

Student 2 – Asari Nobutane

To find the second duel, head to Negoroji in Kii. Once you’ve made it to the city, start by going south towards the Monk Quarters.

Asari will be located among the bamboo trees directly south of Negoroji Kakurega.

Student 3 – Hozoin In’ei

This duel is in the south of Yamato within the Asuka Rock Basin and south of Takatori.

Once you arrive at the basin, there will be a large opening that you can freely navigate through. Head to the other side of the opening, and Hozoin will be waiting for you inside the temple.

Student 4 – Nagano Saemon

In the northernmost part of the game and north of Sotomo Gate in Wasaka, you can find Nagano, the fourth duelist. When you reach this destination, you’ll arrive at a beach. Follow the path that will lead you to Sotomo Cave.

Beyond the mouth of the cave, there will be a rock in the center of the pond with a body in front of it. Interact with the body, and the fight with Nagano will start.

Student 5 – Yagyu Munetoshi

Head back to the Yamato region, but go southwest of the Nara Heartland and southeast of Uda Matsuyama Castle. If you’re at the right spot, you’ll be at Mount Miwa.

When you reach the top, Yagyu Munetoshi will be praying. Just like the other duelists, interact with him to start the fight.

Duels can be done in any order. A good idea would be to face Yagyu Munetohsi after you’ve defeated Hozoin In’ei since they’re in the same region.

Student 6 – Yuki no Kata

For the final duel, they’ll be in the south of Harima, which is the westernmost part of the world. The spot where you’ll need to be is south of Kanki Burned Fields and northwest of Kakagawa. They will be in front of a shrine, praying as well.

How To Complete Nobutsuna’s Student Quest

When you’ve beaten all six students, you can head back and collect your rewards. However, not everything is what it seems. Before you hand in the quest, you go back to Nobutsuna’s house to find Marume Nagayoshi to be the only one there.

By talking to him, he’ll explain to you that the Nobutsuna has been murdered. This will open up another duelist, who is the seventh and final challenge for this quest.

Student 7 – Sanada Masatoyo

The location of this duel will be in his home at Sanada Estate. To get to his home quickly, reach Azuchi in Omi and then go north towards Susuka Foothills. After you land in the foothills, head west past the viewport towards the swampy area.

His estate should be located just in front of the swamp on the west side.

Killing Sanada will end the quest, and you’ll earn a large amount of XP and a new weapon.
