GTA 6 might be a while, but new crime game The Precinct is finally coming soon

GTA 6 is going to be big – bigger than any new game you can think of, and perhaps bigger than any videogame ever. But with Grand Theft Auto 5 updates still rolling out and the launch date of Rockstar’s next open-world epic uncertain, you likely want something to fill the gap. Fallen Tree Games’ American Fugitive was a loving homage to classic Grand Theft Auto. Now, The Precinct takes on the crime game genre from the other side of the law, and after a huge success during Steam Next Fest, it finally has a release date.

The East Coast. 1980s. You play a rookie cop named Nick Cordell Jr., eager to prove himself after the murder of his father, a legend among the local force. Played from a semi-top-down perspective and steeped in police-movie atmosphere, The Precinct is a crime game where, at least on paper, you’re one of the good guys.

Go on patrol, break up street deals, track down high-profile gangsters, and chase down escaping crooks either on foot or in your squad car. You can call in backup, set up roadblocks, and, naturally, when things go sour, reach for your gun. But the deeper you slip into The Precinct’s open-world Averno City, the more blurred the lines between right and wrong become.
