Food Token

All It Takes Is One Bit

The Magic The Gathering card Food token by Tyler Walpole.

The Krabby Patty, the pinnacle of food in Bikini Bottom and the prize dish of the Krusty Krab comes to Magic in the form of a fancy new Food token. The whole burger is on display, the buns, veggie patty, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, ketchup, mustard, onions, and of course, pickles.

You really only need one Food token in pretty much any Magic game, so this Secret Lair is perfect for practically anyone. Just grab a few dice, and you have as many Food tokens as you need from just one card.

There are plenty of commanders out there that have Food token-based strategies that this will fit perfectly in. You can use it in:

  • Ygra, Eater of All
  • Rocco, Street Chef
  • Shelob, Child of Ungoliant

Daze

Where’d That Come From?!

The Magic The Gathering card Daze by Tyler Walpole.

Countering a spell with a card like Daze is the perfect time to deploy the confused Mr. Krabs meme. Daze is a neat little counterspell that you can bust out for free by bouncing an Island back to your hand, instead of paying for the casting cost. Since it can come from nowhere while you’re completely tapped out, you can bust it out against an opponent who foolishly thinks it’s okay to tap out for some big spell.

Magic: The Gathering ventures down to Bikini Bottom with Secret Lair, but are any of these worth building your deck around?

Fun little note about the confused Mr. Krabs meme, that scene doesn’t quite appear like that in the show. That image has been edited with motion blur to make Mr. Krabs look more confused than he is in the show.

Force Of Despair

Always Watching

The Magic The Gathering card Force of Despair by Tyler Walpole.

A bit of a situational board wipe, Force of Despair is a three-mana mass removal spell that only targets creatures that came into play this turn. Perfect against token decks or those that drop a ton of creatures out in a single turn (looking at you Primal Surge), you can completely blow out a strategy with one card.

The meme of Squidward looking out the window at SpongeBob and Patrick frolicking in the yard. It fits so well with you as Squidward, watching your opponents drop a ton of creatures, just waiting for the prime time to ruin their fun.

3

Night’s Whisper

Those Eyes

The Magic The Gathering card Nights Whisper by Tyler Walpole.

Night’s Whisper is just a good card. For two mana you get to draw two cards, though you have to cough up two life in exchange. It’s at sorcery speed which is a bit of a bummer, but it’s still incredibly efficient at any point in the game.

Giving Night’s Whisper the meme of Sleeping Squidward is perfect, with his incredibly bloodshot eyes taking up almost the entirety of the card. This meme comes from the episode “Home Sweet Pineapple” and the reason why he looks like that is because SpongeBob lost his house and found his way into Squidward’s bed.

2

Inevitable Betrayal

Got Something Planned

The Magic The Gathering card Inevitable Betrayal by Tyler Walpole.

The first thing you might notice with this card is that Inevitable Betrayal does not have a casting cost. Instead, you have to pay the suspect cost of three mana, exiling it and putting three time counters on it and only being able to cast it when you remove the last time counter.

Magic: The Gathering has plenty of mechanically unique cards that have only seen one printing and there’s no guarantee that they’ll be reprinted.

There are easier ways to cast Inevitable Betrayal and other suspend cards, and that is by using an ability like cascade to filter through your deck until you find this card and then cast it for free.

The Evil Patrick meme is perfect for the card, since the diabolical Patrick will let you search one of your opponent’s library for a creature card and let you put it into play under your control. Stealing a card might not

Counterspell

YoU wAnT tO cAsT yOuR cOmMaNdEr?

The Magic The Gathering card Counterspell by Tyler Walpole.

Perhaps the most perfect card in the SpongeBob SquarePants: Internet Sensation drop is the special Counterspell you get in, featuring the Mocking SpongeBob image that swept the internet for ages.

The meme has evolved a bit since it first debuted back in 2017, moving to the mocking version shortly after gaining popularity. The mocking ‘aLtErNaTiNg UpPeRcAsE aNd LoWeRcAsE’ text just accents that mocking tone, and you know the exact voice you need to put on to get that vibe when you counter someone’s commander or some bomb spell that is going to mess up your game.
