A Deal with the Devil |
Fights involving Cecil are interesting since he is not a direct combatant but instead a director of several lethal resources. Cecil and Mark have an argument that quickly escalates into a battle. Cecil has a fail-safe device that causes immense pain to Invincible, forcing Mark to be on the defensive for most of the fight.
Cecil’s use of teleportation, the Reanimen, and his device that disables Mark forces him to plead for help from the Guardians of the Globe. Brilliant voice acting sells just how bewildered and angry the Guardians of the Globe are when they see a fellow superhero being beaten to death, leading them to turn against their boss, Cecil.

That Actually Hurt |
Machine Head is a street-level kingpin, so it seems like taking him out should be a straightforward task for someone as powerful as Invincible. However, Machine Head’s resources run much deeper than anyone thought. An all-out brawl occurs, with the Guardians of the Globe utilizing team maneuvers to take out most of Machine Head’s men, but Machine Head has one combatant who stands above all — Battle Beast.
Battle Beast is one of the most powerful fighters in the Invincible universe and has even defeated Viltrumites. Mark was in way over his head against Battle Beast and was easily disposed of, while Monster Girl and Black Samson fared even worse. This was a brilliant clash of powers and, despite the chaos, remained a fully comprehensible melee.

It’s Been a While |
When we saw that the Viltrumites were able to track down Nolan on planet Thraxa, we knew that nothing good could come of this. Based on Mark’s fight with Omni-Man in Season 1, there was little reason to think he could stand a chance against other seasoned Viltrumites, making the tension in this fight palpable.
Invincible is doing all he can to keep up, but Thula, along with her dagger-like hair, is too skilled and vicious for him. Seeing the difference in ability between Nolan and Mark made it clear how much Mark needs to improve to stand a chance. This fight also showed that there is still hope for Nolan to help against the Viltrumites.

Even Cecil himself fights Omni-Man face-to-face, utilizing a ray gun and teleportation to buy some time before he is forced to retreat. This fight was an excellent way to show how much of a juggernaut Omni-Man is and how Earth has little to no hope of stopping him if he decides to go rogue.

What Have I Done? |
After Angstrom Levy mutilated Mark’s mother, it’s hard to imagine any rogue being able to top that, but he manages to find a way. Angstrom Levy builds an army of Invincibles from alternate dimensions with a plan to raid Earth and ruin Invincible’s good name. The results of this invasion are morbid, with devastation in over ten major cities. The Invincible War makes you feel like you’ve witnessed a truly cataclysmic event.
Throughout an entire episode, countless heroes do their best to stop this Viltrumite onslaught. Rex Ryan has to blow himself up just to take out one. Mark himself has his hands full with two variants. While the Invincible War is entertaining to watch, it’s really the aftermath that solidifies just how devastating this conflict was.

I Thought You Were Stronger |
Angstrom Levy was the first villain to break Invincible emotionally. While Omni-Man hurt Mark due to their family ties, Levy went out of his way to brutally beat Mark’s mother. Seeing Debbie hurt enraged all fans, and like Mark, most wanted to see Levy suffer beyond belief.
After an incredible sequence of fighting through the air while shifting between dimensions, Invincible gains the upper hand against Levy. Once he is in control, he keeps hitting Levy over and over again—until Levy’s face is unrecognizable. This was a harsh realization for both Mark and fans of Invincible, as the teenage hero had crossed a line he thought he never would.

“This Must Come as a Shock” |
The Lizard League was supposed to be a punching bag, but they proved to be serious threats when they opportunistically attacked a global defense base while the Guardians of the Globe were split up. Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate, and Shrinking Rae were tasked with taking on three Lizard League members.

Komodo was the MVP of both the Lizard League and the fight as a whole. His super strength and durability led to a variety of graphic ways he was able to kill Dupli-Kate’s clones. Shrinking Rae attempted to enlarge inside Komodo, only for her to be essentially eaten. Rex Splode was left in a two-on-one scenario, and in a high-octane, close-range battle, he barely made it out.

It’s About Time |
If someone wanted to see what it would be like if Superman fought the Justice League, the first episode of Invincible provides a great emulation. Omni-Man turns on the world’s most powerful superhero team and takes them all on head-on.
This fight happened in the first episode, and most viewers weren’t yet familiar with how much gore Invincible could have. Red Rush being held up by his head while punching Omni-Man’s chest so fast that his own hands begin to break is one of the best sequences in the series. Omni-Man executes each member of the Guardians in brutal yet stylish fashion, which explains why he fits so well as a DLC character in Mortal Kombat.

Where I Really Come From |
This is more of a harsh lesson than a fight. Invincible stands up to his father in an attempt to stop him from conquering Earth. Mark knows he is outclassed in every way, but he loves Earth and everything about it, so he has to try. Nolan has fully embraced his Viltrumite heritage and is determined to beat some sense into his half-blooded son.
This fight cemented just how gruesome Invincible’s imagery can get. Nolan holds up his son in front of a subway and forces Mark to watch as people splatter against him. Invincible does an amazing job of demonstrating the collateral damage caused by superpowered beings, and this fight is one of the most important in the entire series for the way it sets the tone, story, and overall atmosphere of Invincible.

I Thought You’d Never Shut Up |
No other villain has pushed Invincible as much mentally and physically as Conquest. Living up to his name, Conquest did not come to Earth to talk — he came only to fight. His battle with Invincible takes up the majority of the best episode of the season, filling nearly 30 minutes with stellar animation and action.
The dialogue from Conquest gives this fight a primal intensity that gradually transforms Mark from a superhero into a killer. The ending of Invincible vs. Conquest is one of the most gruesome in any fight, and it’s a scene every fan of Invincible remembers.
