A week later, the latest entry in the popular franchise managed to surpass 3 million players, with Ubisoft announcing as much on social media. The March 27 milestone marks a 50% player count improvement compared to five days ago, when Assassin’s Creed Shadows officially cleared 2 million players.

Ubisoft Still Isn’t Sharing Assassin’s Creed Shadows Sales Figures

Today’s announcement also saw Ubisoft confirm one prior report labeling Shadows as the second-biggest launch in the history of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, behind Valhalla. This particular achievement is measured in terms of day-one sales revenue. However, the developer-publisher isn’t yet sharing actual sales figures. This is standard practice for the company, which typically reserves detailed commercial performance data for its quarterly financial reports, usually communicating them in terms of overall game revenue—at least for its biggest hits.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Steam Sales Estimates (Week 1)

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has recently achieved the highest concurrent Steam player peak out of any entry in the franchise, with nearly 65,000 people playing the game via Valve’s storefront at the same time on March 23. According to an average of estimates from Gamalytic, PlayTracker, and VG Insights, the game has sold approximately 430,000 copies via Steam as of March 27.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows May Have Already Surpassed 2 Million Sales

A recent VGC report claimed that PC represented roughly 27% of total Assassin’s Creed Shadows “activations” as of March 24, citing internal Ubisoft data. Steam was characterized as being a “significant” contributor to this figure, which is also believed to include Ubisoft+ Premium players. Assuming “significant” means Steam accounted for 20% of activations, and taking the aforementioned third-party sales estimates into account, it’s possible that the game has already sold over 2 million copies. Notably, the PS5 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows set a new series record for the biggest launch on the PlayStation Store—a platform that doesn’t offer Ubisoft+ Premium. Therefore, it’s a given that all current PS5 players purchased the game, which starts at $69.99.
