All Stars of Destiny in Suikoden 1 HD

Suikoden 1 is legendary for the sheer number of characters you can meet and recruit, and you’ll need all 108 Stars of Destiny to see the true ending of the game. Scattered throughout the game, each Star of Destiny has something special to offer to your playthrough.

While several of Suikoden 1‘s Stars of Destiny will join you during the main story, you’ll have to actively explore and investigate the game world to recruit all of them. Some of them, such as Leon Silverberg and Mace are especially difficult to recruit due to specific criteria that require careful timing, lest they be permanently missed.

Story-Locked Stars

The following Stars of Destiny will be automatically recruited as you progress through the story.

Tir McDohl/Protagonist (Tenkai Star)

Our protagonist, McDohl is available from the very start of the game and will always be in your party.

Cleo (Tenman Star)

Cleo will automatically join you when you go out on your first mission for Kraze.

Gremio (Tenei Star)

Gremio will automatically join you when you go out on your first mission for Kraze.

Viktor (Tenko Star)

Viktor will automatically join you while helping you to escape from Gregminster.

Mathiu Silverberg (Tenki Star)

Mathiu joins after McDohl agrees to become the leader of the Liberation Army.

Camille (Tenyu Star)

Camille will join automatically in Kaku while you’re looking for Tai Ho.

Tai Ho (Tenhei Star)

Tai Ho will join once you claim Toran Lake Castle for the Liberation Army (technically a little earlier, since he joins the party when you arrive at the castle.)

Luc (Tenkai Star)

Luc will be forcibly dropped on the Liberation Army by Leknaat after claiming Toran Lake Castle.

Yam Koo (Tenson Star)

Yam Koo will join automatically after claiming Toran Lake Castle, having aided Tai Ho in getting you there.

Juppo (Chisyun Star)

Juppo is met inside Lepant’s Mansion, and will join you automatically even if you don’t bother speaking with him.

Eileen (Tenkou Star)

Eileen will join you automatically after rescuing her from Kraze in Kouan.

Giovanni (Chiyou Star)

Giovanni will join you along with Eileen after she is rescued from Kraze.

Krin (Chizoku Star)

Krin will automatically join you after you save Eileen from Kraze.

Lepant (Tengou Star)

Lepant will join you to rescue Eileen from Kraze in Kouan, formally joining your army once she is safe.

Pahn (Tentai Star)

After acting as a temporary Party Member earlier in the game, Pahn will join you if you speak to him in Kraze’s Mansion, after rescuing Eileen. It is important to note that Pahn can permanently die by losing a duel later in the game, so it’s important to keep him leveled up and well-equipped until that duel happens, and make sure he wins.

Sydonia (Tenkoku Star)

Joins automatically when you return to the Castle, after saving Eileen from Kraze.

Varkas (Tenbou Star)

Joins automatically when you return to the Castle, after saving Eileen from Kraze.

Kirkis (Tenbi Star)

Joins automatically once you agree to help the Elf Village fight Kwanda Rossman.

Valeria (Tensyo Star)

Joins automatically when you leave the Elf Village to visit the Dwarves.

Kuromimi (Chitan Star)

Kuromimi will join you right before the Army Battle with Kwanda Rossman.

Humphrey Mintz (Tenyu Star)

Humphrey will join right before the Army Battle with Kwanda Rossman.

Stallion (Tensoku Star)

Stallion will automatically join after Kwanda Rossman is defeated.

Sylvina (Chisatsu Star)

Sylvina joins automatically after Kwanda Rossman is defeated.

Flik (Tenan Star)

After initially rejecting you, Flik will join the Liberation Army when you go to see him in Kaku.

Gen (Chiman Star)

Joins you automatically after offering to help you cross the Rapids.

Kamandol (Chiri Star)

Joins automatically after Gen convinces him to help you upgrade the boat.

Kimberley (Chikou Star)

Automatically joins after helping forge orders to get you into Soniere Prison.

Tesla (Chibun Star)

Joins reluctantly after helping forge orders to get you into Soniere Prison.

Liukan (Chirei Star)

Joins automatically once you rescue them from Soniere Prison.

Kasumi (Chikyu Star)

Joins automatically before your first fight with Teo McDohl’s Army.

Kun To (Tenfu Star)

Agrees to join after lending boats to Tai Ho.

Mose (Chiziku Star)

Automatically joins you when setting off to deliver the Fire Spears.

Ronnie Bell (Chiaku Star)

Automatically joins you when setting off to deliver the Fire Spears.

Alen (Chimou Star)

Joins after you defeat General Teo in a duel.

Grenseal (Chiki Star)

Joins after you defeat General Teo in a duel.

Fukien (Chijyu Star)

Joins after you enter Qlon Temple.

Hix (Tenrou Star)

Joins before you enter Neclord’s Castle.

Tengaar (Tensui Star)

Joins after defeating Neclord.

Milia (Chii Star)

Joins when you set off for Seek Valley.

Futch (Chibi Star)

Joins when you return from Seek Valley.

Joshua Levenheit (Chikyou Star)

Joins after you get back from Seek Valley.

Taggart (Chima Star)

Joins once you return from Seek Valley.

Griffith (Tenritsu Star)

Joins once you defeat him, at the Northern Checkpoint.

Kasim Hazil (Tenyu Star)

Joins after you save Warren and Viktor in Moravia Castle.

Warren (Tenki Star)

Joins when you rescue him and Viktor from Moravia Castle.

Chandler (Chikou Star)

Chandler the Merchant will come to your castle and set up an item shop. To recruit them, you need to head back to the fortress of Kwaba after claiming your castle by defeating the Zombie Dragon.

They’ll be standing near the south entrance to the fortress, so speak to them to recruit them. Chandler’s shop will contain any item you could purchase at any of the item shops you’ve visited.

Kai (Chihi Star)

Kai is probably one of the most important units you can recruit, since he was the Protagonist’s teacher and can perform the “Teacher and Student” unite attack when they’re in the party together.

You can find Kai at Garan Fortress, to the west of Kuoan, where he’ll gladly join you if you speak to him. (You need the Castle before you can recruit people.)

Lorelai (Chikatsu Star)

You can recruit Lorelai, a bow-wielding treasure hunter, by speaking to her at the Inn in Kouan. The protagonist will need to be level 25 or higher before she’ll accept your invitation.

Maas (Chibaku Star)

Maas the Blacksmith can be found in the Great Forest Village, and he will gladly join you if you speak to him after you have the Castle.

Marie (Chiin Star)

Marie will move to the castle and set up an Inn, allowing you to rest for free and save the game inside the Castle. You can find her in Seika at the inn.

Onil (Chizen Star)

Onil the gossip can be found in a house in Seika, and will join up with the Liberation Army immediately if you speak to her after getting the castle.

In the Castle, she’ll update you on the latest gossip, which is occasionally related to what you’re currently meant to be doing.

Sansuke (Chiretsu Star)

Sansuke the Bath Maker can be found in the Great Forest Village, and will head over to the castle and build a bath when you speak to him.

He can also be brought into battle, wielding a Saw.

Sergei (Chisou Star)

Sergei can be found in the Tavern in Kaku, where he talks about his fabulous new invention. Ask him to come to the castle and he’ll build an elevator, making it easier to navigate as the castle gets bigger.

If you bring him into battle, he’ll wade into combat with a wrench.

Antonio (Chisyu Star)

Antonio the Chef can be seen at the Inn in Seika, but he won’t be recruitable until Marie mentions needing help with cooking, so you’ll need to recruit her first.

Once Marie is recruited, and the Castle is level 2 or better, there’s a random chance for her to mention needing help cooking whenever you interact with her (if you’ve got the patience, you can repeatedly interact with her and select “Don’t Stay” until she says the line.)

Antonio will work as a chef once recruited, helping out Marie at the Inn, but you can also bring him into combat wielding a pan.

Rock (Chison Star)

Rock can be found in the vault in Lepant’s Mansion, in Kouan, and will gladly head over to the castle if you ask him to.

Rock sets up and manages the vault, allowing you to store and retrieve items for easier item management.

Meg (Chikei Star)

Meg can be found in Kaku, outside the Inn, but she won’t offer to join you unless Juppo is in your party at the time.

Once she’s reunited with her Uncle, she’ll join the Liberation Army, wielding a dagger in combat. She is the only character besides Juppo who can use a Gadget Rune.

Gaspar (Chisyu Star)

Gaspar the gambler can be found in the Gambling Den in Kaku. He’s a little miffed that you took his best customer (Tai Ho) last time you were here, but if you can win 5,000 Potch from him he’ll join you.

We recommend saving before challenging him, or this could get expensive. Once recruited, he’ll set up a new gambling den inside the Castle, where you can continue to risk it all for more money from his seemingly bottomless pockets.

Sheena (Chimei Star)

Sheena is Lepant’s son and can be found flirting in the Inn in Seika. Bring Lepant with you and Lepant will force him to join up with you.

Sheena is skilled in swordplay and magic, making him a valuable addition to the party.

Viki (Chitatsu Star)

Viki will show up during your journey through the great forest, which is your only chance to recruit her.

Once you do recruit her, she’ll move into the basement of the castle and use her teleportation magic to help you get around.

Meese (Chihi Star)

Meese the blacksmith can be found studying under the Dwarf Blacksmith in the Village of the Dwarves. If you’ve already recruited Maas, you can recruit Meese by speaking to him.

Meese can upgrade weapons to a higher level than Maas can, making him an important addition to the team.

Templeton (Chimou Star)

After the Village of the Elves is destroyed, head back to it to meet Templeton the mapmaker.

Speak to him to recruit him and unlock the Suiko Map, allowing you to see a minimap when you’re on the world map.

Kwanda Rosman (Tenmou Star) – MISSABLE

To recruit Kwanda Rosman, you’ll need to mention that something seems wrong with him after defeating him during the main story. Avoid any dialog option where you agree to execute him, and you’ll be able to recruit him instead.

Kwanda is a Hatchet-Wielding character with incredible DEF growth and the ability to use heavy armor and shields, making him a fantastic frontline unit.

Fu Su Lu (Tensatsu Star)

Fu Su Lu is a warrior wearing a tiger mask who can be found in the Kobold Village, after defeating Kwanda Rosman.

He’s more than happy to join the Liberation Army, but needs you to pay his 10,000 potch food bill first.

Fu Su Lu wields twin axes and has incredible HP, Attack, and Defense growth. He can also perform the Kobold +1 Attack if Kuromimi and Gon are on the team. His greatest weakness is his speed, though you can mitigate this with Speed Rune Pieces and/or the Gale Rune.

Gon (Chikaku Star)

Gon is a Kobold you can recruit in their house at the Kobold Village, as long as Kuromimi is in the party when you speak to them. Gon is a competent frontline fighter with excellent defense and high luck, making him great for farming critical hits when paired with the Killer Rune.

Rubi (Chisoku Star)

Rubi is an elf who can be found in the Kobold Village, at the Inn. He doesn’t think much of humans, but if Kirkis is level 35 and in your party ,you’ll be able to convince him to join you. Rubi is an Elven Archer with solid stats, and performs well when equipped with runes that aid in physical attacks, or with any of the basic elemental runes. (I’d recommend Wind, Fire, or Lightning.)

Apple (Chifuku Star)

Apple can be found in Matiu’s House, back in Seika, after Kwanda Rosman is defeated. If you tell her that Mathiu wanted to help you, she’ll join the Liberation Army.

She serves as a strategist in War Battles, allowing you an extra use of the strategist order that boosts charge attacks.

Chapman (Chiyu Star)

Chapman runs the armor shop in Antei, but he’ll join up with the Liberation Army if you come to see him after reaching Castle Level 2.

He’ll open an armor shop in the castle, which has access to all items that were purchasable at any armor shop you’ve visited.

Eikei (Chiyu Star)

Eikei is a mercenary who can be recruited in Teien, though he won’t join unless Tir is level 40 or higher.

Once recruited, Eikei is a powerful physical fighter with good stats in every category except for magic. His luck and speed are entirely average, but this doesn’t prevent him from being a useful ally.

Hellion (Chisyu Star)

Hellion is a powerful Magic User who will provide you with the Blinking Mirror, an item that can return you to the Castle from anywhere on the world map.

When paired with Viki’s teleportation, this allows you to easily travel anywhere you’ve already visited. You can meet her at the tavern in Teien, where she’ll join you if your castle is level 2 or higher.

Jabba (Chisei Star)

Jabba is an appraiser in Rikon who boasts about being able to appraise anything without fail. Speaking with a man outside his shop will reveal that he failed once before, when handed something called the “Nameless Urn.”

You can get one as an item drop from Holly Master enemies, who can be encountered near Rikon on the world map. Hand Jabba the Nameless Urn, and he’ll admit defeat, allowing you to recruit him to work as an appraiser in your castle.

Jeane (Chiketsu Star)

Jeane runs a Rune Shop in Antei, where she’ll allow you to recruit her if your castle is level 3 or higher.

Once sent back to the Castle, she’ll open up a Rune Shop there to make it easier to swap out your runes.

Lotte (Chiku Star)

Lotte can be found outside the Inn in Rikon, where she mentions she’s lost her cat. Sure enough, a cat can be found outside the inn in Kaku, and you can herd it into a small alley south of the inn.

Interact with it to catch it, then take it back to Lotte and she’ll join you. She’s an incredibly good magic user who will perform well with any of the upgraded elemental runes.

Mina (Chiin Star)

Mina can be found dancing at the Inn in Antei, where she’ll ask you to dance with her. Tir must be wearing Toe Shoes for this to work, which can be bought in Antei, found in the Castle when you first explore it, or dropped by Holly Masters.

After dancing with her, she’ll join the Liberation Army, where she serves as a powerful and fast magic user.

Anji (Tenken Star)

Anji can be met at the Pirate’s Hideout, but you’ll need a level 3 castle and you’ll have to bring Tai Ho and Yam Koo with you if you want to recruit them.

If you speak to them with the above conditions met, you’ll be able to fight Anji, Kanak, and Leonardo. Beat the fight in five rounds to recruit all three.

Kanak (Tenzai Star)

Joins alongside Anji.

Leonardo (Tenpai Star)

Joins alongside Anji.

Esmeralda (Chikai Star)

Esmeralda can be found at the inn in Antei, but she’ll only join you if you bring her an Opal. Opals are dropped by Nightmare enemies inside Soniere Prison, so keep fighting them until one drops.

Milich Oppenheimer (Tenkyu Star) – MISSABLE

To recruit Milich Oppenheimer, you’ll need to tell him that he isn’t the one responsible for killing Gremio, and avoid agreeing with Pahn, Cleo, and Viktor about avenging Gremio. If you do this, you can recruit him.

Milich is a well-rounded character who can fight on the front lines just as easily as he can wield magic.

Ivanov (Chiyu Star)

Ivanov is a painter who can be found in Scarleticia Castle. After defeating Milich, come and speak to him in the castle to recruit him.

Ivanov will use paints that you find throughout the game to pain a mural in the castle.

Kasios (Chiraku Star)

Kasios the musician can also be found in Scarleticia Castle, and will join the Liberation Army if you speak to him with Milich in the party.

Kasios can perform songs from the game for you in the castle.

Qlon (Chiken Star)

Qlon can be met in Antei, and will join you if you speak to him with a level 3 castle, after defeating Milich Oppenheimer.

Qlon will announce the name of your castle to visitors, standing by the castle gates.

Georges (Chisatsu Star)

Georges can be found at the inn in Kirov after your castle reaches level 3. If you can beat his record at any of the card matching minigames he offers, he’ll join you.

At the Castle, he’ll continue to let you play his card-matching game.

Lester (Chizou Star)

Visit Kirov and enter the houses to the left and right of Sarah (who is doing laundry), tasting the stew on the stoves in each house. Once you’ve done this, speak to him in the house to the south, near the dock, to recruit him. It’s important to wait until after you’ve recruited Antonio, as recruiting Lester first can prevent Marie from mentioning she needs help cooking.

Can only be recruited once the castle is level 3 or higher.

Sarah (Chisou Star)

Recruiting Sarah means going on a short fetch quest (which can only be started when the castle is level 3.) You’ll need to speak to her, then buy sugar at the item shop in Kirov. Go to the Inn and speak to a villager to trade the sugar for a Yardstick. Give the Yardstick to the villager south of Sarah to get salt, then give the salt to a villager at the item shop for soy sauce. Go to the armor shop to find a villager who’ll trade the soy sauce for soap, and then give the soap to Sarah to recruit her.

Sarah is decent at magic and has a long-range weapon, making her a perfect back-row unit.

Blackman (Chitou Star)

You can find Blackman in the ruined town of Kalekka, where he’ll offer to join you if you speak to him without treading on his plants. You can reset by exiting the village and re-entering if you step on them by accident.

Blackman is a strong fighter.

Kage (Teni Star)

Kage can be met at the Secret Factory, where he’ll offer his services in exchange for 20,000 Potch.

As a Ninja, he is tremendously useful in War Battles, and is also very fast.

Kessler (Chisin Star)

Kessler can be recruited by speaking to him outside the Secret Factory right after you arrive.

Ledon (Chido Star)

Ledon can be recruited by speaking to him outside the Secret Factory right after you arrive.

Melodye (Chisa Star)

Melodye can be found in the southwestern corner of Kirov, and will join you if you have the Sound Orb in your inventory.

You can find the Sound Orb in the ruined village of Kalekka, inside one of the houses in a chest. Melodye can change your window sounds using items you find.

Kirke (Chihei Star)

Kirke can be found at Fort Lorimar, where he used to work as a grave digger. You can recruit him by speaking to him here.

Marco (Chitai Star)

Marco can be found in the Warrior’s Village, where he’ll challenge you to a game. Win 5,000 Potch from him, and he’ll join you at the castle.

Moose (Chikyou Star)

Moose can be recruited by speaking to him in the Warrior’s Village Weapon Shop, With Maas, Meese, and Mose in your party.

He’s an even more skilled blacksmith, who can raise weapons to a higher level than the other three.

Zen (Chikei Star)

Zen can be found behind Qlon temple, near the entrance to the cave. He’ll join you if you bring him Red, Blue, and Yellow Flower Seeds, as long as your castle is Level 3 or higher.

You can get the flower seeds from the Teien, Warrior’s Village, and Rikon, item shops. If you’ve visited them before, you can also buy these from the item shop in the Castle.

Morgan (Chian Star)

Morgan can be found inside Qlon Temple and will ask to join you if your Castle is level 3 or higher.

Quincy (Chiyu Star)

Quincy the Hunter can be found at Garan Fortress, but will only join you once you have 80 recruits or more (dead units, or those currently absent for plot reasons, do not count toward this total.)

Hugo (Chisui Star)

Hugo can be found at Qlon Temple, but will not join you until you bring him the War Scroll and have a Castle of Level 3 or higher. This can be found in the Cave of the Past, inside a chest.

Once recruited, Hugo will manage the library and allow you to read any “Old Books” you’ve collected.

Window (Chisu Star)

Window can be found in the Item Shop in Warrior’s Village, but you’ll need the Window Orb and a level 3 castle before he can join you. The Window Rune is found in a secret room in the Cave of the Past. In the room shown in the image above, walk through the hidden path in the wall to the south to reach the chest with the Window Orb.

Clive (Tensyo Star)

Clive will randomly appear inside the Inn in Rikon after you have a level 4 Castle. Keep exiting and re-entering town until he shows up, then speak to him to recruit him.

Crowley (Chizen Star)

Crowley is hidden away in a secret passage, inside the Cave of the Past. Once you have a level 4 Castle he’ll agree to join you. He’s a tremendously powerful mage, well worth the trouble of tracking down.

Pesmerga (Teni Star)

Pesmerga can be found atop Neclord’s Castle, and will join you as long as you have a level 4 castle. Pesmerga has exceptional strength, HP, and defense, but is lacking in speed.

Leon Silverberg (Chikai Star)

Leon Silverberg can be found in Kalekka, but he will only join you if you have a letter from Mathiu asking for his help.

You can only get this letter by speaking him, and then speaking with Mathiu after getting the castle to level 4, but only when Mathiu isn’t busy with a story event.

The latest you can receive the letter and recruit Leon is on the night before the Moravia Castle Mission, or right before the first battle with Sonya Shulen’s Army.

Fuma (Chikou Star)

Fuma can be found hidden in the upper right, outside the Dragon Knights’ Fortress, once the castle is at least level 3. Speak with him to recruit him.

Kreutz (Tenku Star)

Kreutz is a Dragon Knight who can be found inside the Dragon Knights’ Fortress, and he will be convinced to join you if you speak to him while Humphrey is in your party.

Mace (Chiko Star)

Mace is the best blacksmith in the game, capable of raising any weapon to the highest possible level. You’ll need to go to his house in Seek Valley with Maas, Meese, Moose, and Mose in your party, and a level 4 castle, to recruit him.

The best opportunities to recruit him are either the night before the mission at Moravia Castle, or before completing the mission at Shasarazade, since you’ll need four free slots in the party to recruit him.

Vincent (Chichin Star)

Vincent can be recruited by speaking to him on the top floor of Moravia Castle, once you’ve saved Warren and Victor.

Maximillian (Chii Star) – MISSABLE

Maximillian will offer to join the Liberation Army when you visit the Northern Checkpoint, after saving Warren and Victor. Accept his offer to recruit him.

Sancho (Chiei Star) – MISSABLE

Sancho will join alongside Maximillian when you recruit him at the Northern Checkpoint.

Sonya Schulen (Tenjyu Star)

Sonya Schulen can be recruited by speaking to her in the dungeon at your Castle, after you’ve completed the mission at Shasarazade. Ask for her help and she’ll join you.
