Summary

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A will reportedly have no new Pokemon, according to an insider.
  • While not confirmed, it seems as though Game Freak is instead focusing on adding a lot of new Mega Evolutions, of which there are apparently quite a lot.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A was finally shown off for the first time in February, and while we got a decent look at the new battle mechanics, which Pokemon will be included, and teases about new features and returning characters, there are still many questions fans still have about what to expect when the game launches later this year.

One of them is the Pokemon the game might introduce. We know that mega evolution is returning, and if a recent leak is to be believed, Game Freak is planning to add quite a lot of them for the feature’s return. However, whether Pokemon Legends: Z-A will go a step further and introduce regional forms and new Pokemon like Legends: Arceus did is still unknown.

It’s just the megas this time around

Unfortunately, the matter may have been settled earlier today. First shared to the PokeLeaks subreddit by a user called SunshineTokyo, an insider that goes by the name ‘Not a Leaker’ on Twitter has claimed that Pokemon Legends: Z-A won’t have any new Pokemon after all. You’ll likely have never heard of this person, but this is an alternate account of another leaker called Pyoro, who came into prominence for having an almost perfect track record.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is bringing back Mega Evolution, but what Pokemon could receive the treatment?

Of course, take this with a grain of salt for now, but it would make a lot of sense for Game Freak to skip adding new ‘mons this time around. For starters, they have a bunch of new megas to add, which they haven’t had to do for quite some time, and the concept of regional forms doesn’t make much sense given Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes place not long after the events of Pokemon X & Y.

We won’t know for sure until Game Freak confirms it though, or until we see more footage, which may actually happen a lot sooner than we thought. Another reliable insider called NateTheHate recently claimed that a Nintendo Direct is scheduled to take place later this week, though the format is unknown right now. It would be a great opportunity to give fans another look at the game, and put to rest the mystery over the game’s lack of new Pokemon.
