The Witcher 4 was officially unveiled at The Game Awards last year, giving us a first look at an aged-up Ciri in a fancy CGI trailer. Unfortunately, a release date wasn’t provided during the announcement, nor was a vague release window, which suggested to many that it was going to be a while before we get our hands on it.
We’ve heard very little about a potential release year ever since, with many holding out hope that 2026 could be the one, but those hopes were thoroughly dashed by CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz. During an earnings presentation earlier today (thanks PC Gamer), Nielubowicz said that the studio does “not plan to release The Witcher 4 by the end of 2026”.
Don’t Expect The Witcher 4 Until At Least 2027
Disappointing, but not surprised
During the Q&A portion of the presentation, Nielubowicz is asked whether 2027 was a possibility for the game’s release, to which he responded with a very similar statement:
“We are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet,” says Nielubowicz. “All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the timeframe of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026.”

CDPR could learn a lot from the incredibly underrated Witcher 2.
Even though 2026 is no longer on the table, there is still the possibility that the game could launch shortly after. CD Projekt Red did recently state that it learned from Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes to announcing games way before their release dates, and joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said that he doesn’t want the studio’s next game to have a marketing campaign that lasts several years.
Early 2027 feels like a good bet to me, but we should know by now that game development is extremely unpredictable. One thing is for certain though, and that’s that we’ll be waiting at least two more years before The Witcher 4 hits store shelves.
