Naruto has such a deep lore that even those who have read it might be a little confused or forget some things. World building is undoubtedly one of Masashi Kishimoto’s greatest skills as a writer and creator.
And while the beginning of Naruto shows a kid who seems to be a “nobody” wanting to become a Hokage, we later learn that Naruto’s origins are much more “noble” than we ever expected and that he has immense potential, not only because of what happened to him as a baby, but also because of his lineage, as the Uzumaki Clan is a descendant of the Otsutsuki Clan.

Why Did the Otsutsuki Clan Come to Earth?
The Otsutsuki Clan was introduced at the end of Naruto Shippuden, but Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two-Blue Vortex further develop this clan, though many questions remain unanswered.
As far as has been revealed, the members of the Otsutsuki Clan are some sort of space colonizers/exploiters who travel around the Universe in search of Divine Trees (or God Trees) to nurture and later consume their Chakra Fruit (with few exceptions).
Although Divine Trees were taken as the source of life for a long time (at least, on Earth), they are actually parasitic trees that absorb the chakra of the planet, slowly leading to its death. Even though they are aware that Divine Trees are destructive to the planets, the Otsutsuki still settle on many planets to cultivate these trees in order to later obtain great powers and near immortality by consuming the Chakra Fruits.
This was the reason why Kaguya and Isshiki Otsutsuki came to Earh, to nurture the Divine Tree to produce a Chakra Fruit — the Otsutsuki Clan usually invades planets in pairs.
Kaguya’s Lineage Branched Into Many Clans
Kaguya was a low-ranking Otsutsuki, as far as we know, and she was supposed to serve as a sacrifice for the Divine Tree. However, she betrayed her partner, leaving him to die and consuming the Fruit herself. Isshiki survived, and his actions later reverberate throughout the series.
However, Kaguya became attached to the planet, to the point where she fell in love with a human and had two twin children, Hagoromo and Hamura Otsutsuki. In the anime, the human with whom she fell in love with was Emperor Tenji. She put an end to a war, and was worshiped as a deity for some time. But, at some point, Kaguya “went mad” and was consumed by her lust.
When she gave birth to her two sons, they inherited some of the chakra and powers she had gained through the Chakra Fruit. So Kaguya wanted to have “all the chakra” for herself again, and planned to kill her sons.
However, Hagoromo and Hamura were able to seal her — Hagoromo later decided to spread chakra throughout the Earth through peaceful means, creating Ninshu, while Hamura went to the moon.
Not ninjutsu, Ninshu! My Ninshu was created to inspire hope. Do not confuse it with ninjutsu, which was made to create war!
As her sons had children, Kaguya’s lineage would later branch out into the Uzumaki, Uchiha, Hyuuga and Senju clans.

The Ancestor of the Uzumaki Clan
Both the Senju, Uzumaki and Uchiha clans share Hagoromo Otsutsuki as their ancestor. Hagoromo had two sons, Indra and Asura. The Senju and Uzumaki clans descend from Asura Otsutsuki, and Indra is ancestor of the Uchihas.
Indra was the elder, and he became angry and vengeful after Hagoromo chose Asura as his successor as the “leader” of Ninshu. One of the reasons for which Hagoromo disapproved of Indra was because he used chakra in battles (he is credited as the creator of ninjutsu because of that).

Could An Uzumaki Eventually Awaken the Sharingan?
While Indra inherited the Sharingan and its evolutions from his father, it seems that Asura didn’t. The Sharingan can only be unleashed due to genetic modifications that likely took place when Kaguya ate the Chakra Fruit. Apparently, only Hagoromo and, later, Indra, inherited these modifications.
For this reason, it is unlikely that an Uzumaki could ever unleash the Sharingan, unless they also have Uchiha ancestry, or if an Uchiha transfers a Sharingan eye to them.
Some fans actually speculate that Boruto will eventually do it, but they seem to be a minority in the fandom. Boruto is actually descended from Kaguya Otsutsuki by both his father (Uzumaki, although Naruto’s mother is also a descendant of a Hyuuga) and mother (Hyuuga), so it is possible to create some sort of excuse, though it seems unlikely.
