Ever since the beginning of Genshin Impact, the story of the Traveler has unfolded with many twists and turns as they visit different regions and witness the world of Teyvat. During these adventures, you also get to meet various characters that you can use in the game, and Varesa is one of them.

Genshin Impact: Best Weapons For Bennett
These swords are the very best Bennett can use in Genshin Impact.
She’s a five-star Electro character coming from the Collective of Plenty tribe in Natlan. You can see one of the highest damage numbers from an Electro character if you put the right weapons and artifacts while building Varesa.
Best Varesa Builds
Most of Varesa’s kit (discussed below) is centered around dealing a ton of damage to a group of enemies in an area. There are two major ways to increase the damage she can deal: building her with the right gear and using the correct combinations. Thankfully, you have a couple of options for artifacts and weapons while building Varesa.
Main Varesa Build
With Varesa’s release in the Version 5.5 update, a new domain with the Long Night’s Oath set was also released, which is the best artifact set you’ll find for her. It gives her a 25 percent Plunging Attack DMG bonus for two-piece and another 75 percent for four-piece, effectively increasing her main source of damage by 100 percent.
You can get the full damage bonus on this set as you use one Plunging Attack, two Charged Attacks, and two Elemental Skills, which happens very quickly for Varesa. This can be combined with her signature weapon, the Vivid Notions, to get the maximum possible boost while putting together Varesa’s build.
Apart from the Crit DMG on the secondary stat, her signature weapon gives her another 28 percent ATK and a whopping 68 percent Crit DMG increase. However, a good substitute for this is the Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds weapon that you can get from the standard banner.
This can give her some Crit Rate and DMG bonus, with the latter increasing with her time on the field. Finally, the craftable four-star Flowing Purity can also be great because of its Elemental DMG bonus with The Widsith being another good four-star option, though the randomness with this one makes it a little difficult to use.
Alternate Varesa Build
The artifact sets mentioned in the main Varesa build above can only be acquired in the Atocpan region of Natlan, which is quite far away if you’ve recently started the game. It can also take you a while to farm this set if you’ve acquired Varesa as soon as her banner released for the first time in the Version 5.5 update.
For these scenarios, you can use Obsidian Codex or Thundering Fury as alternate artifact sets, though you’d eventually want to switch to Long Night’s Oath as it gives a much bigger damage boost. The former gives Varesa a ton of Crit Rate with some DMG boost, while the latter is a general Electro set increasing her reaction-based damage.
The best team for Varesa is where she’s the hypercarry with three supports, and if you’re using this, Thundering Fury isn’t a good choice.
For this build, apart from her signature weapon, you can also use Kagura’s Verity and Blackcliff Agate as these give a decent Crit DMG boost as a secondary stat to go along with the Crit Rate from Obsidian Codex. The Elemental Skill DMG from Kagura’s Verity isn’t useful for Varesa, but you can use the Elemental DMG Bonusa after getting all three stacks.
Varesa Artifact Stat Priority
Each artifact set in Genshin Impact has a total of five types of pieces, with each one having a specific main stat and four sub-stats. If you want to build Varesa properly, you’ll need to hunt for these stats on each piece:
Type |
Main Stat Priority |
Sub Stat Priority |
---|---|---|
Flower |
HP |
Crit DMG/Rate > ATK Percent > Energy Recharge |
Feather |
ATK |
Crit DMG/Rate > ATK Percent > Energy Recharge |
Sands |
ATK Percent |
Crit DMG/Rate > Energy Recharge |
Goblet |
Electro DMG Bonus / ATK Percent |
Crit DMG/Rate > ATK Percent > Energy Recharge |
Circlet |
Crit Rate/DMG |
Crit DMG/Rate > ATK Percent > Energy Recharge |
If you’re using the Long Night’s Oath artifact set, you can go for ATK Percent on her Goblet as she already gets a ton of DMG bonus from other sources.
The main stat on your Circlet depends on the weapon you use. Varesa already gets Crit Rate with her ascension, and you can easily overcap her Crit Rate if you’re using Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds or any other weapon with Crit Rate. In these cases, you’d want to use Crit DMG as your main Circlet stat.
On the other hand, with Varesa’s best build consisting of Vivid Notions, you’d want to go for Crit Rate as she gets a ton of Crit DMG otherwise.

Natlan has quite a range of characters, with some of them being good at single-target bosses like Mualani and Kinich while others being good at dealing with a hoard of enemies like Chasca. However, other than Mavuika, Varesa is the only character that’s good in every situation.
Though you might have a rough time understanding her kit while reading through it, so here’s a simplified version of it:
- Varesa can gain Nightsoul Points while using her Plunging Attack, Skill, and Burst. When her points are full, she can enter the Fiery Passion state by using her Plunging Attack or Elemental Burst. In this state, all of her abilities get a buff.
- Within Fiery Passion, Varesa can deal increased Plunging Attack damage, though her Nightsoul points get consumed with this attack and take her out of this state. You then have to put her back in this state by following the same process.
- Varesa’s Skill can get an extra charge when she enters the Fiery Passion state, essentially allowing you to use two skills with each charge.
- Finally, her Elemental Burst has multiple types of damage. The lowest damage is when you use this outside of her Fiery Passion state, which you’d never want to do. You can deal increased damage with her burst if used during the Fiery Passion state.
- Moreover, she gets a special Elemental Burst for a few seconds after using her Plunging Attack in the Fiery Passion state, which lets her ignore the ability’s cooldown and consume 30 energy (instead of 70 for her normal burst) to deal a significant amount of damage.
While using Varesa, your best combination will be the following: skill – normal attack – plunging attack to enter the Fiery Passion state, then skill – normal attack – plunging attack – burst to deal high damage while exiting the state. You can repeat this combination as long as you have enough Energy to execute your special Elemental Burst.
Varesa Talent Upgrade Priority
Varesa has a total of three active abilities that you can upgrade up to level ten, and her Elemental Burst takes priority since this deals the highest damage numbers. However, the Normal Attack comes in a close second, so you’d want to upgrade both of these at the same time.
For her Elemental Skill, you can upgrade it to around level eight and then keep it there since it doesn’t deal a lot of damage.
Is Varesa Worth Getting?
If you’re an F2P or low-spending player, the first question in your mind whenever a new banner releases in Genshin Impact is likely if a character is worth getting. Varesa is one of the few characters that would be worth pulling in every situation since she can work even with F2P-friendly teams.
Of course, much like every other character, you’ll lose a significant portion of her damage with these teams. If you have characters like Xianyun, Furina, and Xilonen on your account, you can pull Varesa without a second thought. If you don’t have these characters, you can wait for a better-suited DPS.
At the end of the day, you should pull for the characters that you enjoy since the endgame of Genshin Impact is fairly easy to beat.
