Summary
- Pokemon is turning some of its Local Acts prefecture mascots into plushes.
- Iwate’s Geodude mascot is included in the line which means the Rock-type is about to get some legs.
- The Local Acts mascot versions of Chansey and Lapras have also been turned into plushes.
Certain prefectures, or areas, in Japan have been assigned their own Pokemon mascots. Those Pokemon can usually be found in various ways throughout their designated areas, and on occasion, a mascot version will be present at events. Now, some of those mascots have been turned into what may well be Pokemon’s most unexpected plush line to date.
Dubbed Pokemon Local Acts, the initiative has been in place for years and aims to better connect people with their communities using Pokemon. Local Acts might be best known for its manhole covers. Explore a prefecture that has a Local Acts Pokemon mascot, and you’ll likely find some Pokemon-themed manhole covers with unique and colorful art.

Or Pokedex-Size since that’s the term Pokemon appears to be using now.
As for which Pokemon have been selected for prefecture duty, there are currently 12. Okinawa’s Pokemon is Growlithe, Fukui’s Pokemon representative is Dragonite, and Hokkaido technically has two mascots since both Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix are its representatives. They’re not among the Local Acts Pokemon mascots selected for plush duty, though. That honor goes to Geodude, Lapras, and Chansey.
Pokemon’s New Plush Line Gives Geodude Legs
It’s About Damn Time
PokeJungle has shared images of the plushes, and while they will almost certainly be exclusive to Pokemon Centers in Japan, they don’t appear to be available yet. The plushes are unique from other designs since each Local Acts mascot has something that differentiates them from every other Pokemon in their species. Chansey is holding a clover and wearing a white bowtie, for example, and Lapras is sporting an adorable neckerchief.
Geodude’s plush will be the most unique of all, however, and not just because it wears a headband. Since people in costumes represent the Local Acts mascots during events, the Geodude costume has transparent texture legs. A cute inclusion in the costume’s design, and one that The Pokemon Company has kept in place for the mascot’s plush.
Yes, even though there is absolutely no need for a Geodude plush to have legs, its Local Acts plush will have the same transparent-textured legs as its matching mascot costume. It’s silly, but I like it. The image shows the Geodude plush standing upright on those legs. I will remain unconvinced that’s not possible until I get one of these plushes for myself. That Geodude is top-heavy, and those legs are going to be as soft as its squishy plush body.
Local Acts plushes will be yet another sub-category of what has become a very busy and tangled Pokemon plush family tree. The most adorable branch of that family tree is Pokemon’s Sweet Support range which recently got four new additions.
