Summary

  • Jason Momoa is excited to play Lobo and reassures DCU fans about his role in the upcoming Supergirl movie.
  • The film will adapt elements from the original comic books involving a story where Supergirl helps a girl avenge her father’s death.
  • Despite Lobo not being in the original comic books, the addition was planned and may enhance the original vision of the story.

When Jason Momoa was brought over from the DCEU to the DCU in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, it was a pretty big deal. That’s been made obvious by the amount of hype that’s come with him when he made the jump. His arrival was also a bit of a surprise considering that the character he’s playing in Lobo isn’t one that ever makes an appearance in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic books. That is one of the reasons why some people might be a bit worried about Lobo being part of the project and Jason Momoa being in the film at all. However, the actor wants to make sure people know there’s nothing to worry about.

Momoa has said that he has long wanted to play the character of Lobo and that he even wanted to play him back when the actor was appearing in the DCEU as Aquaman. He’s said in more than one interview that he’s long felt as though he was born to play the part. He was given the chance to do so once the DC Comics cinematic universe was reset by James Gunn and now has the chance to do what he’s always wanted. He’s been bubbling over with excitement since he got the job, and in a recent interview, he made it clear why fans of the DCU should be plenty excited to see Lobo and the Supergirl movie.

Jason Momoa Thinks Lobo In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Will Be Worth The Wait

Momoa sat down with Collider for an interview about another movie entirely recently and the conversation managed to turn to Lobo and Supergirl. He was actually doing a press tour with Minecraft Movie co-star Jack Black when he talked to the publication and both the author and Black started pestering the former Aquaman actor about looking at a picture of him in his Lobo costume that he reportedly had on his phone. Howevever, Momoa knows the drill and he knows there’s no chance he’s allowed to show the picture without getting a go-ahead from Gunn. While the author and Black left the interview empty-handed, Momoa did assure them: “It’s gonna be good. Don’t worry.”

Plot specifics for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow are being kept under wraps, however it’s known that the film will adapt the story in the original comic book to some degree. That story features Supergirl agreeing to help a young girl named Ruthye hunt down the man who killed her father. Krem of the Yellow Hills is expected to be the main villain for the movie as he was for the book.

Mily Alcock is prepped to make her comic book movie debut as the titular character while Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye Marye Knoll. Mathias Schoenart will play Krem and Momoa will play Lobo. While he was kept out of the original comic books, the author has since said there was originally a plan to include the outlandish bounty hunter and that this film could end up being closer to the original idea for the story.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
