Planks are an early-game item that you can use in Core Keeper. Here, we’ll go over exactly how to make them.

This legendary sword was created by those from the ancient civilization that used to inhabit The Core, but time has caused its destruction and the pieces of it have been scattered. If you want to wield this weapon in your battles, you’ll need to search far and wide.

What Is The Rune Song?

Player character displaying a pop up with the Rune Song's stats and skills on it in Core Keeper.

Rune Song is one of several Legendary-tier tools and weapons, and it’s a sword that sports not only high damage and good abilities, but a unique skill called Trailing Melody.

Trailing Melody creates a damage trail in the direction of the cursor that reaches up to six tiles depending on how long it’s charged and can hit enemies through walls.

Like other Legendary weapons such as the Phantom Spark, the Rune Song has a more complicated crafting process than normal weapons, as it requires a special recipe, and three unique crafting components found via exploration alongside some common materials. In total, it has six components:

  • The Rune Parchment, its recipe.
  • The Broken Handle, a weapon and its first unique material.
  • The Chipped Blade, the second unique material.
  • The Clear Gemstone, the third unique material.
  • 50 Iron Bars.
  • 10 Ancient Gemstones.

For the three unique materials, you’ll need to locate them in specific scenes or bosses. The Iron Bars are obtained by smelting Iron Ore in a Furnace, and Iron Ore can be mined in the Forgotten Ruins if you have a tool with at least a Mining Power of 85 for breaking the Stone Blocks they’re found in.

Ancient Gemstones are also easy to find, as they are a possible drop from every breakable and every type of Chest in the game, regardless of the scene they’re found in, can be found as an ore, and some enemies can drop them as well, like most Cavelings.

How To Get The Rune Parchment

Player character buying a Rune Parchment from the Cloaked Merchant for 2000 Ancient Coins in Core Keeper.

The Rune Parchment is one of several special recipes, and it can be purchased from the Cloak Merchant for 2,000 Ancient Coins, but only after you’ve activated The Core and removed the Great Wall blocking the three mid-game biomes.

Activating the Core is done by defeating the first three major bosses – Glurch, Ghorm, and Malugaz – then bringing their key items to The Core and putting them into their respective statues, then speaking to The Core afterward.

If you don’t have the Ancient Coins for it, you can farm and sell excess armor to the Cloaked Merchant or Bearded Merchant, or alongside dig up and sell extra Valuables from any cross-shaped spots in the ground with a Shovel.

How To Get The Broken Handle

Player character refighting Azeos the Sky Titan as it summons lightning strikes in Core Keeper.

Of the three unique crafting materials used to make the Rune Song, the Broken Handle is the easiest and earliest one you can get.

They have a chance to drop from Large Ancient Breakables in the Forgotten Ruins, especially if you have the Chambers generation type on and there’s more room for them to spawn, and the Hive Mother also has a chance to drop one each time you kill her.

The Broken Handle also doubles as a melee weapon, and if you find one early while exploring the Forgotten Ruins, it makes for a decent upgrade until you can get an Iron Sword.

The Broken Handle also has a chance of dropping from Azeos The Sky Titan after killing them. There’s also a chance to find them in Locked Scarlet Chests, and at a lower rate in regular and Ancient Chests found in certain scenes in Azeos’ Wilderness, such as the Large Maze, Caveling Farmhouse, or Abandoned Camp.

How To Get The Clear Gemstone

The Clear Gemstone is the third unique material needed to make the Rune Song, and it can only be found in the Medium Maze scene. It can spawn in both the Forbidden Ruins and Azeos’ Wilderness, with one guaranteed to spawn, but a maximum of three in the world is possible.

This scene is made up of a medium-sized maze made of indestructible Obsidian Blocks and contains a handful of Stone Dart Traps, single tiles of water you’ll need blocks or bridges for and a center room with a regular Chest.

No enemies spawn inside the Medium Maze, but nearby enemies can and will navigate the maze to reach you if they aren’t killed before you go in, and can sneak up on you while you’re at the chest.

When you get to the center room, you’ll find the Clear Gemstone inside the chest, and it’s also guaranteed to have ten Ancient Gemstones, 20 Ancient Coins, ten Iron Bars, five Gold Bars, an Ocarina, and a Recall Idol.

How To Get The Chipped Blade

The Chipped Blade is the most difficult of the three unique materials to find, as it is exclusively found in the Chipped Blade Temple scene.

This scene can only spawn in Azeos’ Wilderness, and they can be difficult to find due to their smaller size and the massive size of Azeos’ Wilderness, which also includes the Shimmering Frontier sub-biome.

Up to three can spawn per world, and you’re guaranteed to have at least one somewhere, but you’ll need a Glow Tulip to open the doors, so you’ll want to have one with you when you go searching.

The easiest way to find them is to locate the Waypoint near Ivy the Poisonous Mass or Azeos the Sky Titan, and then start branching out from each side of said, using either a high-mining damage Pickaxe or Sledgehammer, such as one made from Octarine Bars.

Player character holding up a Glow Tulip in front of the Chipped Blade Temple to open the doors in Core Keeper.

You can then map out the biome boundaries to get a range, and then go back and forth through the region until you find a Chipped Blade Temple. If you go far enough but don’t find one, you can then just use a Recall Idol to teleport back to The Core, then back to the Waypoint in Azeos’ Wilderness, and go in a different direction.

If you don’t have a Glow Tulip on hand or forgot to bring one before leaving your base, you can occasionally find them growing in Azeos’ Wilderness.

When you find the Chipped Blade Temple, hold a Glow Tulip near the door for a few seconds to make the locked door open. Inside, you’ll find two pedestals: one has a Gold Crystal Necklace, and the other has a Chipped Blade on it.

When you have all six components, put them in your inventory and make sure the Rune Parchment is in your hotbar.

All you need to do is use it like you would a consumable item to bring up a progress bar, and when it’s finished, you’ll receive the Rune Song.
