With how dangerous the underground is in Core Keeper, you’ll need at least some type of weapon to defend yourself, whether it’s a sword or a spell book that summons minions to fight for you. If you don’t, a grim fate, tombstone, and lost items are likely in your future.

Core Keeper: How To Make Planks

Planks are an early-game item that you can use in Core Keeper. Here, we’ll go over exactly how to make them.

Many of the weapons you come across are crafted yourself at an anvil or dropped from a monster or boss, but a handful of weapons and tools go far beyond what you can make or find. Appropriately called legendary, these weapons carry unique properties that set them apart from all others, and the Phantom Spark is one of them.

What Is The Phantom Spark?

The Phantom Spark bow is one of several Legendary tier items, and it cannot be crafted with normal crafting materials and its recipe isn’t naturally unlocked by getting a new anvil. In total, it has six components:

  • The Glyph Parchment, its recipe.
  • The Channeling Gemstone, the first unique material.
  • The Energy String, the second unique material.
  • The Fractured Strings, the third unique material.
  • 100 Octarine Bars.
  • 20 Ancient Gemstones.

The Octarine Bars and Ancient Gemstones are the easiest materials to get out of them, as Octarine Ore can be mined in large quantities all over the Sunken Sea, as well as found in Treasure Chests there, and Ancient Gemstones are a common drop from any breakable or Treasure Chest regardless of biome.

Use a Boat Workbench to craft at least the basic Boat before attempting to get the Phantom Spark, as it will make crossing all the open water a lot faster and prevent you from needing hundreds of bridges.

As for the other four components, you’ll need to find several specific locations in the Sunken Sea and explore them to find the items you’ll need: the Glyph Parchment Shrine and the three largest Forlorn Metropolis sub-biomes.

For the other components, you need to seek out special Forlorn Metropolis sub-biomes found on the open water of the Sunken Sea that contain Broken Core scenes at the center. Each of those three scenes always has an Ancient Chest that contains one of the materials.

The materials needed to craft the Admin Key are also found in the same Forlorn Metropolis sub-biomes as the Phantom Spark’s actual materials, and they’re what’s found inside the Broken Cores that make up the scene:

For the Shutdown Protocol and Anomaly Report Core Rooms, the only Ancient Chest will be on the top right side of the room, but for the Overwrite Transcript Core Room, the chest is in the bottom left corner, and you’ll need to place blocks or bridges to get across the water to it.

The Glyph Parchment can be found in the unique Glyph Parchment Shrine scene, located in the Sunken Sea on a small island around 500 Tiles away from The Core.

To open its locked door, you’ll need the Admin Key, which is made by purchasing the Empty Crystal from the Cloaked Merchant after you’ve restored The Core and gotten to the mid-game biomes and then combining it with the Shutdown Protocol, Anomaly Report, and the Overwrite Transcript in your inventory.

Once you have the Admin Key, bring it to the Glyph Parchment Shrine, insert it into the door to open the room, and get access to the Titan Chest inside. It will always contain the Glyph Parchment, some guaranteed valuables, and other loot.

How To Craft The Phantom Spark

First, make sure you have all the materials in your inventory, like with the Admin Key, as it won’t work if the items are in storage, even if they’re within range. This includes the Glyph Parchment, Channeling Gemstone, Fractured Limbs, Energy String, 100 Octarine Bars, and 20 Ancient Gemstones.

Put the Glyph Parchment in your hotbar and then use it like a consumable item to make a progress bar, and when it’s filled up, all the materials will be consumed, and you’ll receive the Phantom Spark bow.
