Summary
- Durin will reportedly become playable in the next region of Teyvat in Genshin Impact.
- Version 5.6 will focus on Mondstadt lore and feature familiar characters.
- Leaks claim Mondstadt’s story will set up Durin’s introduction as an eventual playable character.
A reliable source in the Genshin Impact community has teased that Durin will become playable during the next region of Teyvat. As a character, Durin has been teased since the launch of Genshin Impact. The remains of this fierce dragon rest in Dragonspine, the first map expansion in the game’s history. While Mondstadt was given plenty of attention before the launch of Sumeru, its lore had entered a state of hibernation, as the Traveler’s story took them to the other regions of Teyvat.
However, a plot thread concerning Durin and his imminent resurrection was introduced in July 2024, and it would seem that Genshin Impact fans are about to experience the next chapter of that story in Version 5.6. Whereas Version 5.5 is exclusively focused on Natlan, the upcoming update will give Mondstadt in Genshin Impact its chance to shine, as the next Archon Quest will take players back to where it all began – featuring old friends like Venti, Eula, Jean, and Albedo.

Genshin Impact Leaks Banner Characters for Version 5.6
An important leak from the Genshin Impact beta servers reveals which 5-star characters will accompany Escoffier and Ifa on the banners in Version 5.6.
The purpose of the upcoming Archon Quest will be to set up Durin’s return as a major player in the story, and according to Full Stop Chan, it will lead to Durin becoming playable in the next region of Teyvat. He is a separate character from Dahlia, who will also be introduced to the story in Version 5.6 before becoming playable in Version 5.7. Assuming earlier leaks are correct, this would mean that Durin will make his playable debut as a Medium Male model during Nod-Krai in Genshin Impact. Between Varka, Durin, and the potential return of Capitano, Genshin Impact certainly isn’t hurting for male characters that could be added in the near future.
Genshin Impact Could Be Making Durin Playable in Version 6.x
One important thing to keep in mind is that Durin becoming playable after Version 6.0 isn’t a guaranteed thing. Even reliable sources may not have the full picture to work with, as was recently seen with Madame Ping in Genshin Impact. For now, players should enjoy a return to Mondstadt in Version 5.6, as Genshin Impact slowly moves the spotlight away from Natlan.
That being said, Version 5.6 will introduce a new World Boss to Natlan on a secluded island to the southwest of Atocpan. On top of that, Ifa in Genshin Impact will join the playable cast in the upcoming patch as well. Despite having a bit of a lull in the first half of its era, Natlan is set to have a stacked set of updates to close out its chapter. Players will be able to witness the next act of Mondstadt’s story when Version 5.6 launches on May 7.
