Summary
- Devil Fruits are foundational power-ups in One Piece, and God Fruits are the ultimate form of this power-up.
- Imu may have the Earth God Fruit and Blackbeard could have a Moon God Fruit.
- Blackbeard’s potential third Devil Fruit could be a Mythical Zoan type, setting up a major clash with Luffy.
Despite all the power-ups and methods to get stronger in One Piece, Devil Fruits will always remain the foundational cornerstone of the series’ power system. Although these aren’t the only ways for a character to get stronger, they exist as the easiest and most ubiquitous power-ups in the franchise, often taking many average characters and bringing them to very high of power.
With the full introduction of Haki in the second half of the One Piece story, many believed that Devil Fruits had taken a backseat in the greater scheme of things. However, with the reveal of Luffy’s Nika fruit in Wano, the concept of God Fruits was introduced which completely changed the game. While many often theorize about who has the remaining God Fruits, let’s take a look at the villains who might call such power their own.

One Piece, Chapter 287, “God Killing” |
- The most likely villain with a God Fruit power is Imu.
- Blackbeard could also very likely have a God Fruit ability.
To break down if any villains have God Fruits, it must first be discerned what the concept of God Fruits even entails. When the true state of Luffy’s Devil Fruit was revealed to be the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, fans would coin the term ‘God Fruit’ as a means to describe the most powerful kinds of Devil Fruits that allow their users to transform into gods of some kind, since Nika is considered the Sun God of the world.
After this reveal, fans would revisit the Skypiea arc, which was the first to tease Luffy’s true power and had massive implications for the overall lore of the series, although fans didn’t know it at the time. In this arc, there were mentions of various gods of the world along with the Sun God, prompting many to think that the Nika fruit isn’t the only one of its kind and that it is actually one of many God Fruits. This theory was compounded in Chapter 1138 of the Elbaf arc, which mentioned all these gods once again.
So, naturally, fans began to draw parallels between these fruits and the mysterious abilities of some characters. To see if any villains have these powers, one must look at the ones that have been mentioned in Skypiea and the mural. Chief of these is the mysterious Earth God fruit, which many believe to belong to Imu, who is the ruler of the world. This makes a lot of sense considering how the Harley Texts claim that the Earth God engulfed the world in darkness with the help of the Serpent of Hellfire.
This is the perfect parallel to Imu, since they are the one who outlawed research into the true history of the world and have kept the populace oblivious to the truth for centuries, which is essentially keeping them in proverbial darkness. Plus, Imu lives atop the Red Line, which by many accounts is an unnatural stretch of Earth that encircles the globe and is seen by many of the world’s residents as being an affront to the natural order. Judging by the insane power that the Earth God seems to have in the Harley Texts, many easily relate it to Imu.
The Earth God raged, and with its Serpent of Hellfire, shrouded the world in death and darkness.
The Forest God is someone who is a little more difficult to pin down. On the face of it, Admiral Green Bull fits the mold as the ideal candidate to have this power due to the properties of his Logia Devil Fruit, but it’s unlikely that such a major power would belong to a relatively minor character. Because of this, some believe that it could even be Loki. Although Chapter 1143 showed that he is likely not a villain, he does have antagonistic tendencies.
Loki is already confirmed to have a God Fruit, but he and everyone else on Elbaf claim that this power is that of the Sun God, so it may eliminate him as a candidate for the Forest God Fruit. However, it can still be so, since the Harley Texts claim that the Forest God sent forth demons, which could loosely connect to Loki’s backstory, where he was described as a prankster who would often let the monsters from Elbaf’s underworld loose in the villages.
However, this is a very vague connection to make. Similarly, the Rain God fruit is up for debate, since many agree that Monkey D. Dragon is the most likely candidate to have this power, which can be surmised from his brief appearance in Loguetown where he seemingly controlled the weather. However, some fans even think this could be Enel, due to his lightning being loosely connected to the concept of rains and storms, though this is highly unlikely.
The most likely candidate for a villain with a God Fruit, other than Imu, is Blackbeard. Although this is pure speculation, it is quite clear that from the very start of the story, Oda meant for this character to be the exact opposite of Luffy in just about every regard. Because of this, many think that Blackbeard’s long-awaited original Devil Fruit is the opposite of the Nika fruit, which would give him the ability to become a Moon God. This would work as an incredible parallel and would give great context to his and Luffy’s eventual clash.

The Evidence For Blackbeard Having A God Fruit
How Could This Power Exist?
As stated previously, Blackbeard is the antithesis of everything that Luffy stands for and, even after over 1100 chapters of the manga, remains one of One Piece’s biggest mysteries. At the current moment, Luffy is arguably the most powerful pirate in the world and the story has always built up to his inevitable battle with Blackbeard, so it would only make sense for the villain to have a power that would allow him to fight equally against Luffy.
The way this could happen would be an amazing addition to the story. Blackbeard is a unique character in the sense that he is the only person in the world who can use multiple Devil Fruit powers simultaneously, and the powers that he does have are of the strongest Logia type and the strongest Paramecia type in the entire setting. This has prompted fans to believe that his final Devil Fruit will be one of the strongest Mythical Zoan types.
Fate has chosen me to conquer this world!
This makes sense for his story arc since his primary ambition is to become the king of the world and amass as much power and control as possible, which is the exact opposite of what Luffy wants to do, since he wants to spread laughter and freedom to everyone. So, by following this trend, it can be surmised that Blackbeard’s Mythical Zoan fruit is perhaps the opposite of Luffy’s.
The possibilities for this are that either Blackbeard will eventually acquire this power, or perhaps it is the one he has had since the beginning of the series which allows him to house many Devil Fruit powers at once. Whatever the case with this eventually ends up being, the final battle between him and Luffy will prove to be one of the greatest in the entire One Piece franchise.
