The in-game currency, known as Glims, is vitally important throughout the tens of hours that will be invested in a typical playthrough, but they are particularly crucial in the beginning when progress is at its most rapid. Here are some of the best ways to make money in the first few hours, with a few tips for longer-term planning and later stages.

Don’t Sleep
Wasted Time Is Money Lost
- Stella does not need to sleep.
- Buildings are still operational at night.
- Some fish can only be caught at night.
When night falls, the boat stops. That doesn’t mean that Stella has to stop, despite Gwen’s suggestion of heading to bed at the end of the first day. Buildings will continue to function during the dark hours, so plants will grow, the kitchen is operational, and there are always fish waiting to be caught.
Any herring caught in the first few days can be cooked into grilled fish, selling for 35 glims each. After Atul joins the ship and upgrades the fishing rod, there are more rare specimens to catch, such as squid and shrimp, which each bring in 250 glims when cooked and then sold to a merchant. Other valuables or glim bottles may also be pulled in.

Grab Shells And Other Objects Stuck On The Hull
Stowaways On A Ship
- They are not worth much, but they are free and gather over time.
- Cooking shellfish brings a slightly higher price – between 40 glims and 250 glims each depending on the meal.
As time passes and the ship travels further afield, an eagle-eyed player may notice strange shapes gathering on the hull of their vessel. Some mistake them for decorative pieces or just close attention to detail on the part of the development team, but these clingy creatures can be collected by Stella and some can be cooked.
While many may be empty shells, which are essentially useless and sell for a meagre four glims each, oftentimes the crafty stowaways will be more useful shellfish. Only six recipes pertain to these hard-shelled dwellers of the seas, and they fetch relatively low prices with merchants, but that soon adds up, especially when finding clams later in the game in the Oxbury region.

Pop Jellyfish
Yellow Jellyfish Provide Quick And Easy Glims
- Small yellow jellyfish give ten glims each when popped.
- The larger variety provides 25 glims each.
- Potential to earn hundreds of glims in a jellyffish event.
Most likely encountered for the first time during Gwen’s quest I Get Cranky When I’m Hungry, where bright jelly is required to construct the kitchen, the yellow jellyfish are a handy byproduct. Swarms of jellyfish will fly towards the ship, and Stella must merely run or jump into them to pop them and earn some glims in the process.

The smaller yellows will pocket Stella 10 glims each, but targeting the larger jellies is definitely recommended as they fetch a whopping 25 glims each. Another useful tip is to position one of the buildings on the ship much higher, so those highflyers can be popped with ease, despite Stella’s inability to jump particularly well early in the game.

Collect Crates
Free Resources To Sell And Save Money
- Seeds, ore, rocks, wood and tchotchkes appear in crates.
- Crates respawn within a day or two.
- Resources in crates will be native to their region.
While exploring the four different regions in the world of Spiritfarer, there are some crates floating in the water just waiting to be claimed. It’s always worth taking a short detour to collect these crates if they are on the way or close to the next destination, and they are full of goodies at no cost.
Some items are less useful, like empty bottles and old boots, though they can be saved for later use, but the main attractions here are the free seeds and other natural resources like rocks and ore. Shipwrecks respawn over time, so the crates can be claimed repeatedly, and the crates in each region provide their own native resources, such as lettuce seeds in Furogawa.

Cook Meals And Sell To Merchants
Keep The Kitchen Active And Improve The Value Of Some Foodstuffs
- Always excess meals if not taking too many spirits at the same time.
- The best early game foods to cook and sell include coffee, shrimp and squid.
The kitchen is one of the early buildings to be constructed on the ship and can massively increase the value of some produce when cooking them. Especially if Stella only takes in a few crew members at a time, she will not need to provide many meals, so excess meals can be sold to merchants for a tidy profit.
Apart from fish, fruit and veggies, tea and coffee are two of the most profitable when “cooked”, bringing in hundreds of glims for each cup sold, while giving high crop yields. Later in a playthrough, herring can also be fermented into surstromming after unlocking the cellar, selling for 350 glims, for those with a strong nose and an even stronger stomach.
3
Buy Odd Seeds
Very Healthy Profit In Very Little Time
- Odd seeds can be purchased from Francis the Wandering Merchant.
- 500 glims per seed.
- Harvested tchotchkes will fetch a hefty profit.
Whenever meeting Francis the Wandering Merchant, it’s certainly recommended that players purchase the odd seed for 500 glims. This can be planted in the garden and nurtured until harvest time, causing various tchotchkes to burst out.

Among this crop yield are some very valuable items, which easily exceed the 500 glim purchase price in value, leading to an easy profit. If Summer has taught Stella how to play instruments to help plants grow faster, then this could be utilized to make the odd seed bloom in no time, perhaps even before departing from the traveling merchant’s location for instant sales. He is never too far away and will happily purchase any unwanted valuables that are found during this adventure.

Head To Hoseki Quarry
1000 Glims In A Hidden Room
- Requires double jump and some exploration.
- Can head to Hoseki in the first few hours of gameplay.
- A spirit will give Stella 1000 glims.
After unlocking the double jump ability in Hummingberg, costing two obols, it would be a good idea to head west to the Furogawa region where an easy 1000 glims are just waiting to be claimed. Hoseki Quarry is a great place to visit anyway, since there are plenty of rocks and metal ores waiting to be mined, but there are secrets to uncover.
Through a hidden tunnel at the top right of the quarry is a hidden room where a spirit is avoiding their mining work in order to read. To keep this secret, the spirit buys Stella’s silence by giving 1000 glims, which is still a fairly substantial amount early in the game.
1
Grow Lettuce
Healthy Eating And A Healthy Profit
- Seeds cost 35 or can be found in crates in Furogawa.
- Only one lettuce per seed.
- 250 glims per lettuce sold.
Located in the Furogawa region, lettuce is a quick source of income throughout the game. Seeds can be purchased from the raccoons in Furogawa for only 35 glims per seed, or they may appear in crates and chests dotted around the area, free of charge.
A basic uncooked lettuce brings in 250 glims, which is a high profit margin indeed. Once again, optimizing growth speed by playing music to the budding lettuce crop will produce these leafy veggies in no time, quickly bringing in hundreds of glims per harvest. Only one is produced per seed, but leafy veggies are not really needed in many recipes, and other greens like leeks and celery also provide a high profit margin.
