The mighty Uchiha clan is one of the most feared clans in the world of Naruto, or at least, they were. Not long before the beginning of the series, the majority of the Uchiha were wiped out by Itachi, meaning, for much of the story, the only known members of the legendary group who actually appear are Itachi and his younger brother Sasuke. While both these individuals are great characters in their own right who both embark on compelling personal arcs over the course of the story, many other Uchihas have also made their mark on this immensely popular series as time has gone on.

Throughout the story of Naruto, some narrative arcs have been more memorable among fans for a variety of reasons.
Sure, some of these characters may be a little forgettable due to a lack of screen time or backstory, but there’s a fair few who manage to capture the interest of longtime fans thanks to their interesting personalities, relevance to the story, and, of course, their immensely powerful and intriguing Sharingan abilities. When taking all these factors into account, here is how the Uchihca members in the Naruto story rank up to one another.

Fugaku
The Last Leader Of The Uchiha Clan Was A Legend Among The Common Ninja
- First Appearance: Episode 84
Though Fugaku, the previous head of the Uchiha clan, only receives a few brief scenes throughout Naruto: Shippuden, it’s still more than enough to give fans an idea of what this guy stands for and why his name was so well known across the ninja world. Wicked Eye Fugaku, as he was known in the Third Great Ninja War, was a true force to be reckoned with during the conflict, but back home, he was also admired by his fellow clan members thanks to his dedication to keeping the peace between them and the other villagers.
Fugaku’s unwavering love for his two sons, Sasuke and Itachi, shows him to be a father who deeply cares for his family, no matter how out-of-line they might act. When Itachi slaughters the clan, for example, Fugaku simply asks for an explanation and says that he is still proud of his son, before being murdered. Again, there’s not quite enough shown about Fugaku for him to be a fan favorite, but he’s still a very interesting and important character nonetheless.

Izuna
Madara’s Brother Plays A Significant Role In Leading The Uchiha And Discovering The Mangekyo Sharingan
- First Appearance: Shippuden – Episode 136
Though Madara Uchiha receives plenty of screen time throughout Naruto: Shippuden, a lot of credit also needs to be given to his brother, Izuna. Back in the old days, before ninja villages were even established, Madara and Izuna would become the leaders of the Uchiha clan thanks to the overwhelming power acquired from their newly awakened Sharingans.

However, after a fateful bout with the dangerous Tobirama, Izuna ended up losing his life, but not before offering his eyes so that Madara could acquire an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, boosting his power tremendously. What makes Izuna such an interesting character, though, is the loathing hatred he held for Tobirama. In many ways, Izuna can be seen as the embodiment of the darkness and rage that festers among the Uchiha, as, unlike Madara, he never sought a way to establish peace between his clan and the Senju.

Shisui
Shisui Made The Ultimate Sacrifice To Protect His Friend And His Clan
- First Appearance: Shippuden – Episode 201
Shisui was Itachi’s best friend when the two were growing up, though their happiness together wouldn’t last all that long. After the Uchiha clan was wrongly blamed for the disastrous release of the Nine Tailed Fox in Konoha, many members began orchestrating a coup d’etat to take down the Hokage and village officials, but Shisui was one of the only people to stand against this.
With Danzo desperately trying to take Shisui’s eyes for himself and the Uchiha clan quickly running out of patience, Shisui decided to take his own life, leaving behind a note to explain his actions. Not only did his death help to awaken Itachi’s Mangekyo Sharingan, it also prevented him from becoming the first casualty to spark off a new ninja war, showing just how loyal and admirable this former Uchiha really was.
4
Obito
Obito’s Troubled Past Warps His View Of The World And Everyone In It
- First Appearance: Shippuden – Episode 32
While he has taken on several names throughout the story, the real name of the man who hides behind the orange mask is Obito Uchiha, a student of Minato and former close friend of Kakashi. Saying Obito had a rough time as a ninja would be an understatement. After being almost killed by a boulder, Obito barely escapes with his life intact thanks to some help from Madara, but it’s upon seeing Rin, his former teammate, being killed that he really begins to lose his mind.
With a newly awakened Mangekyo Sharingan and full determination to carry out Madara’s Eye on the Moon plan, Obito would be the one to orchestrate many of the events of the story behind the scenes. In fact, it would be Obito who kicks off the Fourth Great Ninja War, which he himself would partake in, going up against many tough opponents, including his old friend Kakashi. Obito’s massive impact on the story and his compelling backstory result in him being a very intriguing character to follow, despite his identity being hidden for much of the series.
3
Sasuke
Sasuke’s Obsession With Revenge Sets Him On A Long And Grueling Adventure
- First Appearance: Episode 1
Sasuke Uchiha is a character so popular that even those outside of the Naruto fanbase will be able to recognize him. One reason for this is his design, with the glowing red Sharingan eyes and pitch-black hair becoming synonymous with the character, but what has also made Sasuke so beloved is his long and satisfying character arc. At first, all Sasuke wants to do is get revenge on Itachi for killing his clan, which eventually sees the younger brother going down a very dark path due to his obsession with gaining more power.

There have been several embarrassing defeats throughout the Naruto series. These examples tend to stick out.
During this time, he engages in plenty of exciting fights against the likes of Naruto, Orochimaru, Deidara, and eventually, Itachi himself. Upon learning the truth of his brother’s actions, though, and how he only did it to prevent another war from breaking out, Sasuke is forced to find a new resolve, and by the end of the story, he finds himself teaming up with Naruto once again. Needless to say, Sasuke’s been on a pretty wild ride, but his memorable fights, jaw-dropping Susano forms, and compelling character arc have all contributed to making him a real standout of the cast and an incredibly popular Uchiha member.
2
Madara
This Legendary Uchiha Possesses An Absurd Amount Of Power And An Intriguing Ideology
- First Appearance: Shippuden – Episode 322
There are two main reasons why Madara Uchiha has become one of the most popular characters in all of Naruto: his absurd level of power, and his ideology. Simply put, there is nobody who can stand up to Madara in terms of raw strength and ability, as made clear when he effortlessly wipes out hundreds of ninja when arriving in the final war, all by himself. He would even push the five Kage to their very limit after summoning not one but two meteorites that could have easily obliterated the planet.
Seeing a character be so absurdly strong already ensures that every scene featuring Madara is going to be a memorable one, but what also makes this character stand out, as mentioned previously, are his beliefs. Madara wants to use a Genjutsu, known as the Infinite Tsukuyomi, on the moon, which would hypnotize the population to prevent any new wars from breaking out. Clearly, this is a pretty nightmarish scenario, but considering how many people Madara has lost and the amount of war he has witnessed throughout his life, it’s quite fascinating to see how this Uchiha comes to view “peace” in his own unique way.
1
Itachi Uchiha
An Uchiha Shrouded In Mystery Who Is A Lot More Complex Than He Initially Lets On
- First Appearance: Episode 81
When Itachi first shows up in the series as an intruder to Konoha, his menacing design and frightening powers make him seem like a straight-up villain who would presumably end up being one of the final antagonists of the series. In a very unexpected turn of events, though, it’s eventually revealed that Itachi is actually a man who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from being obliterated by yet another war, hence why he was essentially forced to exterminate his clan.
This single reveal adds so much depth to Itachi’s character, with him still being a common topic of online debates and conversations even to this day. While he was once shown to be a very lively and joyful character as a youngster, Itachi has been worn down and scarred by the constant cycle of war and revenge that surrounds him, and when paired with his otherworldly abilities, which are always a joy to watch in-action, it results in an extremely well written character who many fans have come to love.
