You Have Two Hands for A Reason BG3 Trophy Guide

Not every achievement in Baldur’s Gate 3 is about slaying the Chosen or making impossible choices — some reward you for far more important actions, like petting your furry and feathery friends. The You Have Two Hands for a Reason achievement is all about triggering a camp event with Scratch and the Owlbear Cub in a specific way.

How To Unlock Penny Pincher In Baldur’s Gate 3 (Achievement / Trophy Guide)

The Penny Pincher achievement in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be unlocked using wit or strength, and here are two strategies to help.

Because the event can’t be triggered again, it’s crucial to know exactly which dialogue options to pick — so you don’t miss out on both the achievement and the joy of petting your lovely pets at the same time.

Recruit Scratch (Act 1)

Scratch the Dog from Baldur's Gate 3

Scratch is recruited in the first act of the game, and he can be found to the northwest of the Blighted Village. When first encountered, you’ll find Scratch guarding the corpse of his former master. You can interact with the mourning dog and offer him a home at your camp.

After a long rest, Scratch will arrive at the camp and will remain with you throughout the rest of the game.

Recruit Owlbear Cub (Act 1)

Owlbear cub from Baldur's Gate 3

Just like Scratch, the Owlbear Cub can also be recruited in the first act. The cub, along with his mother, is first encountered in the Owlbear Cave, located to the west of the Druid’s Grove. If you enter combat with the Owlbear mother, the cub will also join the fight, siding with his mother. You must ensure that the Owlbear Cub survives this encounter and spare it in the cutscene that follows the fight.

After your next long rest, when you visit the Goblin Camp, you’ll find that the goblins have captured the Owlbear Cub. The cub can be freed and offered a home at your camp by passing a persuasion or intimidation check with the Goblin named Krolla. Alternatively, you can also poison the booze tub, killing several goblins in the process and sending the remaining of them on high alert. This leaves the Owlbear Cub open to recruitment without having to pass any skill check, as long as you have the Speak with Animals

condition active.

Once the Owlbear Cub has been freed, you’ll find him visiting your camp during the next long rest. Startled by one of your companions, he’ll run away, only to return with a minor injury during the second long rest.

Succeeding in an easy Medicine, Animal Handling, or Survival check will let you heal the cub’s wound, and he will remain in your camp from this point onwards.

Unlocking The You Have Two Hands For A Reason Achievement

Baldur's Gate 3 - You Have Two Hands for a Reason Achievement

With both Scratch and the Owlbear Cub recruited, the next long rest will trigger an event that wakes up your character. It begins with Scratch and the Owlbear Cub playing together. Succeeding an Animal Handling check will allow you to first pet Scratch and then the Owlbear Cub. Despite not actually using both your hands, the achievement will still pop up.

However, if you have the Speak with Animals condition active before long resting, you won’t need to pass any skill check. In fact, your character can have a hearty conversation with both Scratch and the Owlbear Cub to learn about their friendship. Following the conversation, your character will pet both Scratch and the Owlbear Cub at the same time, unlocking the achievement.
