Which Division Should You Choose In Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition?

The most experimental in the series, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has a lot of systems at play right from the get-go. While the majority of them are explained to you, they might not quite give you the detail you’re expecting to actually know what you’re doing. One of those systems are the Divisions.

Here’s every big upgrade you’ll find in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.

Divisions are presented to you to choose from after you become a Blade, though it’s not exactly clear what they do. Sure, you get a run-down of what they all do from a lore perspective, but it’s hard to work out what that tangibly means for you as a player. Here is each of them and exactly what they do for you.

Every Division And What They Do

During the wonderfully long breakdown that Vandham and Elma give you, you are introduced to the eight Divisions of Blade. However, you might not have been prepared for a presentation that you aren’t easily able to go back on, so we’ve listed each of the Divisions below alongside what they represent from a lore perspective.

Division

Purpose

Pathfinders

Explores Mira and places Data Probes to expand FrontierNav.

Interceptors

Defeat threats that get too close to the city. A defensive unit.

Harriers

Pre-emptively takes down threats that pose a threat to the city. An offensive unit.

Reclaimers

Those who explore Mira i nsearch of the debris of the White Whale and the Lifehold.

Curators

Catalogs the various flora and fauna of Mira.

Prospectors

Uses FrontierNav to mine for resources for the city.

Outfitters

Those who work with the Arms Manufacturers to create weapons, armor, and Skells.

Mediators

Works with the people of NLA to help resolve their issues and keep the peace.

This is great for showing how Humanity strives to build their new home on Mira, but all of them also hint towards an actual aspect of gameplay. Curators lean towards a playstyle that would revolve around filling out the Collectopedia, where Pathfinders would be exploring the length and breadth of the world to plant every Data Probe.

In the original game, your Division determined the number of points you got for various activities towards your BLADE level, though this has been removed in the Definitive Edition.

However, just as Elma says, it’s not actually a super strict choice. Every Blade is expected to participate in all aspects of life in improving NLA. Your Division is more of a specialisation rather than a sole profession. It also has no tangible impact on what you can actually do in the game, so don’t fret too much about your choice.

Choosing Your Division

Choosing a division from the full list in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

After hearing Vandham’s spiel about Divisions, maybe you’re already confident about what to choose, or maybe you feel even more lost than before. Well there is nothing to fear here, as the choice means even less in Definitive Edition than it did in the original game. With many of the online systems simplified and streamlined, Divisions end up mostly as a roleplaying system rather than one with actual mechanical depth.

There are additional Divisions within the game added with the new companions, though these cannot be selected by the player at any point, and as such have not been listed here.

There is one aspect that does affect gameplay, however, and that is the Division Rewards. Every real world day, you are given items respective to your Division. These are Battle Items which can be used in the middle of combat. These include items like Tensifiers, which restore your TP in battle. Mind you, there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference between what rewards are offered to which Division, so simply change as you desire.

Can You Change Your Division?

Before you make your choice, Elma really does stress that, though it is frowned upon, you can change your Division whenever you would like. And indeed, this is actually quite a simple process. This is as easy as returning to the Blade Barracks and interacting with the Customisation Center console, and choosing to change your Division.

This process is completely free-of-charge, and can be done as many times as you would like. In the original, the process was the same, though cost a marginal amount of money to do so. This has no impact whatsoever on online play, but it also cannot be used to refresh Division Rewards. No matter what, you can still only get one of these a day no matter what.
