A Call of Duty: Warzone player has given fellow fans a better idea of the massive upgrade Verdansk has received by comparing the returning map with its original 2020 version. Verdansk was Call of Duty: Warzone‘s very first Battle Royale map and is finally set to return on April 3 after a three-year absence. While the map will stay true to its original version, developer Beenox Studios has made some significant upgrades.
Season 3 of Call of Duty is shaping up to be its biggest to date, but it hasn’t been without some setbacks. While the major new content update was initially set to launch on March 20, publisher Activision announced just two weeks prior that Warzone and Black Ops 6 Season 3 had been delayed. The studio didn’t outline a specific reason for the delay, but it did state that Season 3 was going to be a “big moment” for both Warzone and Black Ops 6. Activision went on to explain that it’s taking the time to deliver a great experience for fans. Now, after seeing the overhaul to Verdansk, fans are more understanding of the delay.

Warzone Player Compares Old and New Verdansk
Earlier this week, developer Beenox Studios gave fans their first in-depth look at the newly upgraded version of Verdansk, which will be coming to Warzone on April 3. Although the short video broke down all of the visual improvements, a Reddit user has shown a side-by-side comparison with the original 2020 version of the map, cementing just how big of an upgrade this actually is. According to Beenox, Verdansk has been rebuilt from the ground up with stunning new textures and improved visuals. The studio says it has been able to make use of new technology that allows for better quality and rendering, especially when it comes to the map’s “more complex” foliage.
Many Warzone players are remaining cautious about Verdansk’s return, largely due to the fact that the free-to-play Battle Royale title has evolved massively in the years that the map has been absent. New movement features, quality-of-life improvements, weapons, and more mean that Warzone‘s gameplay feels drastically different from how it did in 2020. The good news is that many seem to be pleasantly surprised by the big visual upgrade. After checking out the comparison images above, Reddit user ReydanNL said, “Looks really good, can’t wait to play it again,” while Starlink420 said, “It’s gonna be good to be back home. Can’t wait.”
It’s not just Verdansk that is returning with Season 3 either, as Activision has been slowly revealing some iconic features that are set to return with the upcoming update. While fans are still waiting for the full blog post that breaks down the entire season, it has been confirmed that floating loot will once again be available in Call of Duty: Warzone, as well the classic buy station layout and some iconic Modern Warfare weapons. There is also expected to be plenty of content for Black Ops 6 players to jump into, but official details still remain scarce.
