Superman Test Screening Reactions Draw Comparisons To One Of the Most Well-Received DCEU Movies
Superman is finally in the test screening stage, and it has been compared to a previous DCEU mega-blockbuster.
A new edition of Strange Adventures in the Mod Queue on Reddit’s DCU Leaks thread shared some details about the Superman screening. They shared a list of comments reportedly from a user who claims their source recently attended the Superman screening. However, one should take it with a grain of salt because the claims are unverified but could offer insight into the movie. The source said that Superman is not a comedy, but it has “funny moments in it.” Most of the scenes featured in the trailer were reportedly taken from the early part of the film, suggesting that there was more story hidden from the audience. Also, the speculations about the movie were reportedly “dead wrong.” As for the characters, Krypto the Superdog reportedly plays a significant role and Rick Flagg Sr. will make a brief appearance, but there were no nods to Creature Commandos. Amanda Waller will also have a cameo, but it will be so short that it’s easy to miss.
Nicholas Hoult reportedly gave an impressive performance as Lex Luthor. He has two goons that match his energy, but while they were of help, they were not necessary. The secondary plot focused on Clark (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), and the latter reportedly stole every scene. However, the source admitted being a huge fan of Brosnahan’s comedy-drama The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, so she could be their bias. The source is not an avid fan of DC, so they might have missed some important Easter eggs. However, they noticed that Superman was something any audience, including those who do not read the DC comics, would enjoy.
The claim that it’s not a comedy but peppered with some funny moments somewhat sounds like Superman isn’t really funny. Movie scooper Jeff Sneider previously shared that he heard the film was “jokey” and had a similar tone to MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy. This could be a relief because Superman should not be a comedy in the first place. As for Lex’s two companions, previous footage showed him with two comrades and many thought one of them was Ultraman. However, with the source saying they were unnecessary, it appeared that they were not important characters, so it probably wasn’t Ultraman after all.
Surprisingly, the source didn’t mention Supergirl. Milly Alcock’s Supergirl will reportedly make her debut in the film. This made sense because her solo movie will be released a year later. Meanwhile, another test screening reaction compared the film to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy. Since the two movies are both commercially and critically acclaimed, the comparison only shows that Superman is promising. Well, fans will soon find out.
Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
