Strongest One Piece Characters Who Never Fought Luffy

Strongest One Piece Characters Who Never Fought Luffy

Summary

  • King And Queen never fought Luffy during the Raid on Onigashima and faced Zoro and Sanji instead.
  • Luffy and Eustass Kid never had a major fight despite being rivals and allies against common enemies.
  • Luffy has yet to meet and fight Shanks, his mentor, highlighting their potential future clash.

The world of One Piece is as fantastical as it is dangerous, so it’s no surprise that it’s also the home of many powerful figures, both on the side of the World Government and the Pirates. Naturally, this means that the protagonist of the series, Monkey D. Luffy, has inevitably faced many of these strong characters throughout his long journey.

One Piece: 8 Most Underrated Story Arcs

Despite often going under the radar, these One Piece arcs still offer plenty of lore, character development, and world building.

However, it’s intriguing to think that there are still a lot of prominent combatants in One Piece who wield incredible abilities and yet have never fought Luffy, not to mention that some of them may never face him at all. The following characters are the most egregious examples of this odd phenomenon.

1

King And Queen

Kaido’s Most Loyal Henchmen Never Faced Luffy In Onigashima

  • First Appearance: Chapter 920 (Manga) Episode 910 (Anime)

King the Conflagration and Queen the Plague are two of the All-Stars of the Beasts Pirates, one of the most dangerous pirate crews Luffy and his allies have ever faced. With their ancient Zoan Devil Fruits and their physical characteristics (King’s lunarian lineage and Queen’s cybernetic enhancements), they have earned their place as two of the most powerful members of their crew.

But despite their immense strength, neither of them faced the main character during the entirety of the Raid on Onigashima, as they were busy fighting Zoro and Sanji, respectively. While it is not uncommon for those two to clash with the most powerful opponents of an enemy crew, this omission is still quite bizarre, seeing as Luffy was involved in eleven different battles during the raid, and yet he never had a real fight against neither King nor Queen (aside from some very brief and insignificant clashes).

2

Eustass Kid

One Of Luffy’s Biggest Rivals Never Had A Major Fight Against Him

  • First Appearance: Chapter 498 (Manga) Episode 392 (Anime)

Monkey D. Luffy has formed an intense rivalry with his fellow Supernova, Eustass “Captain” Kid, but, weirdly enough, they never actually starred in a real major battle against each other. On the contrary, they reluctantly joined forces to fight common enemies in both the Sabaody Archipelago and Wano Country arcs.

Needless to say, this would be an interesting match-up, since Kid has eaten the Jiki Jiki no Mi, a surprisingly versatile Devil Fruit that allows him to manipulate any metal around him and create gigantic and destructive constructs. Witnessing Kid’s magnetic powers clashing against Luffy’s rubber abilities would be entertaining but, sadly, this has not happened in the story yet.

3

Trafalgar D. Water Law

Another Supernova That Unexpectedly Became A Trustworthy Ally

  • First Appearance: Chapter 498 (Manga) Episode 392 (Anime)

Similarly to Eustass Kid, Trafalgar D. Water Law is another member of the Worst Generation who initially formed a rivalry with Luffy but ended up becoming one of his best and most important allies. This was completely intentional, however, as Law actually hatched a plan to join forces with the Straw Hat Pirates in order to take down both Donquixote Doflamingo and Kaido.

8 Best Friendships In One Piece, Ranked

Amidst all the adventure, treasure-hunting, and piracy in One Piece, some incredibly deep friendships have formed throughout the series.

Nevertheless, it is still quite weird to think that he never faced Luffy in any way and that they have fought enemies together on more than one occasion, especially during the Dressrosa Arc. Law has eaten the legendary Ope Ope no Mi, an incredible Devil Fruit that allows him to do all sorts of unbelievable things, so seeing Luffy trying to deal with his Room technique would be both fun and exciting.

4

Admiral Ryokyugu (Aramaki)

The Only Marine Admiral That Luffy Has Never Fought Personally

  • First Appearance: Chapter 905 (Manga) Episode 882 (Anime)

The Admirals are among some of the most powerful members of the Marine forces of One Piece, and the recently introduced Ryokugyu (real name: Aramaki) is no exception. With his mastery of both Armament and Observation Haki, combined with his incredible Logia Devil Fruit, the Mori Mori no Mi (which allows him to turn into and control plant life), he has proven to be a formidable opponent that was able to hold his own against multiple strong combatants, like Morley, Weevil, Yamato and the Nine Red Scabbards.

Throughout the story, Monkey D. Luffy faces four of the five Admirals, meaning that he has yet to meet, let alone fight, Aramaki because this new antagonist was defeated by Shanks and retreated from Wano before he could even fight the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. They never encountered each other again after that, but this match-up could still easily happen at some point before the end of the series.

5

Boa Hancock

One Of The Strongest Warlords Of The Sea Fell In Love With Luffy

  • First Appearance: Chapter 516 (Manga) Episode 409 (Anime)

The concept of the Warlords of the Sea was established very early on in the story: a group of seven powerful pirates allied with the World Government that the Straw Hat Pirates were inevitably going to fight and take down one by one. After defeating Sir Crocodile and Gecko Moria, Luffy met Boa Hancock in Amazon Lily, but he didn’t really have to fight her.

After a big misunderstanding and a brief battle against Hancock’s sisters, Sandersonia and Marigold (in which Luffy proved that he was a good person), the fearsome and beautiful Pirate Empress fell in love with him and became one of his most powerful allies. While Boa Hancock is undoubtedly one of the strongest women in the One Piece world – thanks to her fighting skills, her potent Haki, and her unique Devil Fruit – it’s important to point out that Luffy was completely immune to the powers of the Mero Mero no Mi, so he would have a significant advantage if they were to face each other in combat.

6

Shanks

Luffy Has Yet To Reunite With His Beloved Mentor

  • First Appearance: Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 4 (Anime)

In the very first chapter of One Piece, readers are introduced to “Red-Haired” Shanks, an honorable pirate captain who gave Luffy his signature straw hat and who inspired him to one day become a great pirate on his own. Curiously enough, later on in the story it’s revealed that Shanks is one of the Four Emperors, meaning that he’s one of the most important and most powerful pirates in the entire world.

8 Best One Piece Strategists, Ranked

While many characters in One Piece get by on strength alone, these characters use their brilliant tactical minds to strategize their way to success.

Since one of the main plot points of One Piece is centered on Luffy reuniting with Shanks and returning the straw hat to him, these two characters have never met again, let alone faced each other in battle. Of course, this hypothetical fight would be extremely challenging for the main character, since his beloved mentor is a notoriously impressive fighter with dangerous swordsmanship skills and incredible mastery over the three forms of Haki.

7

Figarland Garling

Luffy Has Yet To Meet And Fight The Newest Member Of The Five Elders

  • First Appearance: Chapter 1086 (Manga) Episode 1120 (Anime)

The Egghead Arc was a monumental occasion for longtime One Piece fans since Luffy personally met and fought all the Five Elders, who immediately lived up to their reputation and proved to be some of the most powerful figures in the entire world. After a long and intense brawl, the Straw Hat Pirates managed to come out of the encounter unscathed, and Jaygarcia Saturn was later killed by Imu for letting Luffy escape and failing to stop Doctor Vegapuk’s broadcast.

Saturn was eventually replaced by Saint Figarland Garling, the commander of the God’s Knights and Shanks’ biological father, which means that he remains the only member of the Five Elders that Luffy has not personally encountered. Due to his position and his reputation, it has been hinted that Garling is one of the strongest warriors of the World Government, and he’s going to get even stronger if Imu grants him a legendary Devil Fruit, similar to the ones the other Elders ate.

8

Imu

Luffy Will Fight The Main Antagonist Someday (Or Will He?)

  • First Appearance: Chapter 906 (Manga) Episode 885 (Anime)

The revelation that the Five Elders were not the highest authority of the World Government and that the supreme ruler of the world is a mysterious entity shrouded in shadows called Imu is still highly regarded as one of the most shocking plot twists in the entire series. But it also put a clear objective in the minds of the fans: Luffy will definitely have to face this new antagonist at one point before the end of the series.

On the other hand, however, many fans theorize that Imu may be defeated by another opposing force (like Shanks or Blackbeard) before Luffy gets to face them, so the entire story may easily reach its conclusion before this fight ever happens. Needless to say, this hypothetical match-up would be nothing short of legendary, seeing as Imu has showcased some terrifying abilities of their own, including a mysterious transformation that may be even bigger and stronger than the monstrous forms of the Five Elders.
