Summary

  • Rockstar has taken down a fan project remaking the GTA 6 map in GTA 5.
  • Dark Space believes that it was taken down because they used leaked coordinates from the GTA 6 community mapping project, though they don’t hold a grudge.
  • Instead, they removed the download link and announced that they’re moving on from GTA 6 mods for the time being.

Tired of waiting for a new trailer, one fan decided to bring as much of GTA 6’s map into GTA 5 as they could, allowing the community to explore Vice City early. But, without warning, Rockstar took the project down.

“I spent months building a fan-made GTA 6-inspired map inside GTA 5 – something purely made out of passion, not profit,” YouTuber Dark Space said (as reported by IGN). “But shortly after uploading a video showcasing the project, Take-Two Interactive took it down. No warning. No Conversation. Just Gone.”

I spent months building a fan-made GTA 6-inspired map inside GTA 5.

But with the sheer number of high-profile fan projects that have been taken down by Rockstar in the last few months, Dark Space wasn’t surprised, and instead took the opportunity to remove the download link to “get out in front of them rather than waiting for their email”.

Why The Fan-Made GTA 6 Map Recreation Was Taken Down

As for why the project was taken down to begin with, Dark Space believes that it’s because they based their rendition around the GTA 6 community mapping project, which uses leaked coordinates to “perfectly” map Vice City.

Some even fear that the mapping project will be the next on Rockstar’s chopping block.

“That’s probably the biggest red flag, although most of the work in my map was based on the trailer shots,” Dark Space explained. “I think my map could have ruined the surprise of their map, which I get. If you spent years building out this amazing game just to have some YouTuber soil the experience of the map’s shape, size, and vibe… I’d want it removed too.”

They clearly do not want this project to exist. So it’s not just under threat, it’s eliminated.

With all the footage delisted, and the download link removed, they’re ready to move on. But not to another GTA 6 mod, “since it seems dangerous” right now what with Rockstar taking aim at community projects. “I’m just going to keep making videos that people hopefully like,” Dark Space said, closing the book on their Vice City mapping efforts.
