Pokemon’s Team Rocket Attache Cases Listed For Almost $2,000 On Resale Sites

Pokemon's Team Rocket Attache Cases Listed For Almost $2,000 On Resale Sites

Summary

  • The Glory Of Team Rocket Pokemon TCG set releases in Japan next month.
  • The set will include a briefcase filled with booster packs and other themed accessories.
  • Despite a lottery system to determine who gets them, scalpers are listing the cases for almost $2,000 on resale sites.

While the US and most of the rest of the world will be getting the Team Rocket-centric Destined Rivals set, The Glory Of Team Rocket, a set from which Destined Rivals will pull, arrives in Japan on April 18. That set will include a fancy Team Rocket briefcase filled with booster packs and other accessories, and somehow, those briefcases have already started to show up on resale sites outside of Japan.

Part of a wider selection of Team Rocket accessories, the attache case is black with a red Team Rocket R right in the middle of it. It’s what you’ll find inside that makes it so sought after. Pokemon will hold a lottery to determine who gets them (thanks, PokeBeach). 30 The Glory of Team Rocket booster packs inside and, based on that alone, the 14,900 yen ($100) price tag is pretty reasonable.

Pokemon TCG’s Glory Of Team Rocket Set Is Going To Break Me

I usually resist the pull of the Pokemon TCG. Team Rocket might change that.

The briefcases will be snapped up almost immediately, hence the lottery system. However, like some other Japan-exclusive Pokemon TCG items, it might never be released in the US. That’ll be why scalpers think they’ll get almost $2,000 for them on resale sites. However, how exactly those scalpers can guarantee they’ll have a briefcase to sell at this stage is a little unclear.

Yet Its Briefcase Is Already Popping Up On eBay For Almost $2,000

It’s possible the lottery to determine who gets a Team Rocket attache case has begun, and some customers have already been selected. All I know is that there will be one. That seems unlikely though, and even if the lottery has begun, scalpers outside of Japan being selected seems even less likely than the lottery selections having already been made.

Whether these scalpers really have the briefcases or they’re just hoping they’ll get one and are trying to sell their hypothetical collectible ahead of time, there are currently at least three listed on eBay in the US, the most expensive of which has a $1,980 buy-it-now price. All of them will need to be shipped from Japan which either means the sellers live in Japan, or arrangements will be made so the briefcases are shipped from Pokemon to whoever buys them.

Unfortunately, this is the state of the Pokemon TCG across the board at the moment. Pre-orders for the Destined Rivals set opened yesterday, and to say it was chaos at the Pokemon Center would be an understatement. Every time you think the Pokemon pre-order process couldn’t possibly get any worse, a new set drops and trying to buy anything from it immediately becomes almost impossible. Destined Rivals ETBs are already appearing on resale sites for greatly inflated prices.
