Monster Hunter Wilds title update 1 is everything that fans could have asked for – and a not-so-subtle tease from Capcom promises that more is on the way. The first major overhaul for the biggest RPG on Steam, the new MH Wilds update now has a confirmed release date, and will revive classic monster Mizutsune while bringing back the beloved Gathering Hub, adding seasonal events, introducing a new battle with Zoh Shia, and adding the Arch-Tempered version of Rey Dau, complete with forgeable armor sets. There are also new cosmetics, gestures, and DLC on the way – and a gigantic tease for the next Monster Hunter Wilds title update, which Capcom says will arrive this summer.
Okay, let’s get into this. First up, Monster Hunter Wilds title update 1 brings back Mizutsune, the leviathan that we originally faced back in MH Generations. Once you’re above level 21, just find Karla in the Scarlet Forest and you can start the battle. It promises to be one of the most epic showdowns in the Capcom RPG so far, but another grand clash is also making a comeback. The fight with Zoh Shia in Wilds is one of the best in the whole Monster Hunter series, but the problem, of course, is that when it’s over, it’s over. With title update 1, however, Zoh Shia is back.
You can now fight a high-rank version of Zoh Shia and also get materials from the battle that you can use to forge equipment. You can find the encounter in the ruins of Wyveria. On a similar note, title update 1 will introduce the Arch-Tempered variant of Rey Dau, and you will be able to craft both Rey Dau Gamma and Felyne Rey Dau sets.
But even more Monster Hunter classics are making a return. Arena Quests are back – you can play them either solo or co-op with one another player, find them in Wounded Hollow, and each quest provides you with a predetermined loadout. The Gathering Hub is also back in the form of the Grand Hub. You need to reach HR16+ before you can access it, but once you’re there, you’ll find the iconic Palico chefs, and you’ll be able to drink, eat, and arm wrestle with your compadres.
Seasonal celebrations will also be held at the Gathering Hub, beginning with the Festival of Accord where you can get event-exclusive decorations, equipment, and gestures. Classic gestures from previous Monster Hunter games will also be available in title update 1 as well as new outfits and glasses for Alma, and DLC Cosmetic Pack 1 will launch alongside the update.
All told, this is everything we hoped for and more. So, when’s it all happening? The Monster Hunter Wilds title update 1 release date is confirmed for Thursday April 3 for players in Pacific Daylight time zone, and Friday April 4 for players on British Summer time. That, of course, is the main date to remember, but there are a couple of others for your Monster Hunter diary. The Arch-Tempered Rey Dau variant is available as part of title update 1 from Tuesday April 29 to Tuesday May 20. The Festival of Accord runs from Wednesday April 23 to Tuesday May 6.
A small, secondary update, 1.0.1.1, will arrive at the end of May, Capcom says. But the developer finishes its announcement with a very telling tease. Not only is another full title update arriving in summer, but it will seemingly introduce Lagiacrus, the legendary, semi-underwater monster from MH 3. Take a look at the end of the clip. I think we can all agree that that’s Lagi’s roar.
