Summary
- Monster Hunter Wilds fans aren’t happy with the camera system.
- It’s very hard to focus on one part of the monster with the new system.
- To improve the camera experience, try switching focus aim to toggle and not locking on the monster.
It’s hard to believe that Monster Hunter Wilds actually managed to topple World as Capcom’s biggest ever game. The 2018 title was perfect in almost every way, but Wilds managed to pip it in terms of player count and is also a bit less intimidating to new players. However, there are some things that fans still miss from older games, like Palicos preparing your meals instead of having to grill them yourself.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Great But I Don’t Think I’m Playing It Right
Monster Hunter Wilds is the best Monster Hunter I’ve ever played – but I’m not sure I’ve actually played it.
It seems another major problem players have with Wilds is the camera system. While fighting large monsters, the new camera system tends to zoom in unnecessarily while also moving around in a wild manner if the focus camera feature is on. This wasn’t an issue in Monster Hunter Rise, so fans are surprised at how clunky the camera is in the latest entry despite using the same RE Engine.
Over on Reddit, one player made a comparison video of how the camera works in Rise as opposed to Wilds. The former featured a regular camera with the clear outline of the hunter if they are behind the monster. However, in Wilds, we can see that there is a lot of erratic movement by the camera and the hunter outline is not very clear either.
“The amount of times I’ve tried to walk back to the tail to cut it off and to have the camera f*** off somewhere else has been annoying. I’ll just wait to see them limp before focusing on them to see skulls,” said one player. Those using weapons with shorter reach are especially bothered by the camera as they need to get up close and personal.
“I was struggling and getting frustrated so much with the camera, after having zero problems with the camera in MHW and MHRise. Felt like I was back in the old days lol. Aside from this it also just feels like I’m getting camera-cramped in tight spaces a lot too,” said another player.
It seems the best way to use the camera in its current state is to switch focus aim from hold to toggle and not to lock it on the monster. This might make attacking different parts easier.
