Set loose the Nazgul, because the enormous Lego Barad-dur set just got an equally enormous discount.

More importantly, this kit (which is a follow-up to one of the best Lego sets in my opinion, Rivendell) has literally never been cheaper than it is now. I’ve been covering discounts for a long time now, and this kind of saving is rare. To be precise, Lego Barad-dur is currently £339.99 at Amazon instead of almost £400. That’s an eye-catching £60 less than normal, or 15% if you’re feeling fancy. Unfortunately, US fans will have to wait; the kit is still full price Stateside.

Lego Barad-dur is just one of many Lego deals flying around at the moment as part of Amazon’s Spring Deals, so it’s worth dropping in on our dedicated guide for more savings. Big kits rarely get such a big price cut, after all.

Should you buy Lego Barad-dur?

Seeing as Lego Rivendell is hands-down my favorite Lego kit ever made (seriously, it’s a damn delight to make and show off), this was one of my most anticipated sets from last year. For starters, it’s every bit as ambitious; this is a multi-level recreation of Sauron’s fortress in Mordor, complete with pesky orcs, The Mouth of Sauron from Return of the King’s extended edition, Gollum, Frodo, Sam, and the Dark Lord himself. That means there’s a lot to look at even once the set has been made.

Just be wary of display space, because this is a very tall kit. Indeed, it’s 33in tall so won’t fit nicely onto your average bookshelf. (Especially if you add extra tower-pieces from a second copy, as I’ve seen some very ambitious fans do.)

It’s worth asking yourself if you want to wait for the leaked Shire kit, too. This hobbit-centric delight brings us a bricky version of Bag-End, and from what I’ve seen of the rumored photos, it’ll be a handsome one.

Equally, Rivendell is on offer too – you can get it for £365.49 at Amazon instead of the usual £429.99.
