Of all the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, none come close to the level of strength or overall importance in the story of Satoru Gojo. Not only was this character the most powerful sorcerer of the modern era, but he was also one of the two strongest sorcerers of all time, with many fans still debating that he may just have been stronger than Sukuna as well and would have beaten him if the King of Curses didn’t have Megumi’s Cursed Technique.
In what would be the toughest fight of Gojo’s career, he fought against the strongest sorcerer of all time, almost to a standstill. This showed the upper limit of both of their abilities, as they stood out as unbeatable powerhouses whom no one else in the Jujutsu Kaisen series could take down. In this article, let’s go over Gojo’s potential and the peak of his power which he showcased against Sukuna.

In the entire world of Jujutsu Kaisen, there is perhaps no sorcerer as gifted and hard-working as Satoru Gojo. Although he was already born as one of the most powerful characters in the world due to his inherent gifts of the Limitless Cursed Technique and the Six Eyes, he honed his powers and perfected his knowledge of Cursed Energy to become the greatest fighter in the world.
When it comes time to discuss his peak potential, one doesn’t need to look beyond his incredible fight against Sukuna, where both of the strongest sorcerers gave all they had. This resulted in one of the best fights ever put into the manga format, where Gojo used Limitless to its fullest while Sukuna made the most of his own Cursed Technique as well as that of Megumi’s. Despite the result of this battle spelling death for Gojo, many fans believe that he was stronger than Sukuna, who they say only won due to Mahoraga and the Ten Shadows.
You did well, Satoru Gojo. I won’t forget you for as long as I live.
This is a matter of much debate among the fandom. However, there are a few areas where Gojo outright has Sukuna beat, most notably of which is hand-to-hand combat. Sukuna’s understanding and knowledge of Cursed Energy is the greatest in history which, when paired with his huge Cursed Energy reserves and powerful techniques, makes him a nightmare for anyone weaker than him to face. However, Gojo was the only other person on the same level as the King of Curses but had way better fighting skills than he did.
Due to both of their Domain Expansions, Domain Amplifications, and Cursed Techniques canceling each other out for much of the fight due to their proportionate strength, a large portion of their battle resorted to hand-to-hand combat, where Gojo continuously outclassed his opponent. This is because he had always known the importance of needing to be a master at every facet of battle, which worked greatly in his favor.
Other than this, Gojo’s Doman Expansion, Infinite Void, is perhaps the greatest in the series, and his mastery over it makes him even more deadly. This, coupled with his unparalleled knowledge and proficiency in Cursed Energy manipulation of all kinds, shows why he was the only one to ever match Sukuna at all. In fact, had it not been for him, the remaining students of Jujutsu High would never have been able to defeat the King of Curses.
This is because the most damage that Sukuna suffered throughout the entire final battle against him was due to his fight with Gojo. When Gojo put all of his skills and powers together to their absolute limits, Sukuna suffered catastrophic mental and physical strain, which essentially meant he was operating at well below full capacity when the combined forces of Jujutsu High jumped in to take him on. It’s safe to say that, without Gojo, the rest of the fighters simply wouldn’t have made a dent in Sukuna.

How Would The Fight Have Played Out?
It’s impossible to know for sure if Gojo would have won against Sukuna if Mahoraga weren’t there to adapt to the Limitless Sorcerer’s Cursed Technique. Many fans believe that Gojo would have won since, at that point, Sukuna wouldn’t have had a means of bypassing Infinity, meaning that Gojo’s perfect defense would have stayed unbreachable.
However, the opposite camp believes that Sukuna would still have found a way to bypass it due to his incredible knowledge of Cursed Energy and the power that he possessed. It should also be noted that Sukuna held back his true form the entire fight against Gojo, so it’s clear that he still had a lot up his sleeve that may have just been too much, even for everyone’s favorite sorcerer.
Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime.
