How To Get The Hraesvelg Skell In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition boasts several new additions and tweaks to separate itself from the Wii U original as the “definitive” version of this title. From quality of life changes to new areas, it feels like an all-new game. However, one of the more substantial changes that the definitive edition brings to the table is the addition of a brand-new Skell model: the Hraesvelg.

If you want the best chances at surviving on Mira you better bring along some of the best in your party.

Unlike other Skells, however, this one isn’t available in the shop from the beginning. It’s only unlocked after completing a specific affinity mission. This guide will detail how to access this affinity mission, how to complete it, and the unique properties of this new Skell model.

Affinity Quest Prerequisites

The affinity quest in question, “New Skell on the Block,” only has three requirements to be able to start the quest. Firstly, the player must have completed Chapter 6 of the main story, titled “Dark Matters.” This mission involves you, Elma, Lin, and Lao going to a secluded part of Noctilum to obtain an alien mech device. You are restricted to only using those characters, so be prepared before taking it on.

Once you’re done with that, the player must have obtained their Skell License by completing the quest “The Skell License,” which involves completing eight different tasks for the eight different B.L.A.D.E. divisions. Upon completing those quests, the player will receive a free Skell as well.

Last, the player must be at least level 24 to accept the quest, with the quest’s recommended level being level 25. The quest to obtain your Skell License also has a recommended level of 25, so if you completed that quest with few problems, you’re likely already at the required level.

Upon accepting the affinity quest, Commander Vandham will approach you inside the B.L.A.D.E. barracks to present you with a special mission: to find and rescue a lost Skell for the arms manufacturer Grenada GG. He tells you that its last location was at Lake Ciel in Sylvalum. When you arrive at Lake Ciel, a cutscene will start showing the missing Skell fleeing from enemies, only for it to be shot down and defenseless.

Of course, you decide to jump in and save the day, meaning you have to defeat the three Raid Aeviters pursuing them. Once those three are defeated, the pilot of the missing Skell exits the vehicle, taking off her helmet to reveal herself as Liesel, a spunky, pink-haired girl who serves as a test pilot for Grenada GG.

Unfortunately for her, the Skell she was operating, the Hraesvelg, needs repairs to return to New Los Angeles; Liesel needs two different materials to patch up her Skell: Molten Refridgium and Sylvalian Tree Sap. The former is located southwest of Lake Ciel, while the latter is located on the eastern shore of that same lake.

Once you obtain those materials, return to Liesel to continue the quest. With her Skell repairs complete, Liesel heads back to New Los Angeles, inviting you and your party to meet her back at the Outfitters Test Hangar. Once you meet with her there, she’ll introduce you to her best friend Alicia, who has been designing and working on the Hraesvelg Skell design for years.

Due to Liesel’s accident during the Hraesvelg test run, her boss Grenada GG reprimands both Liesel and Alicia, while also forcing the player to watch for some reason. Once the group exits the hangar, Liesel suggests heading to an excellent lookout point she found in western Primordia.

This lookout point that Liesel mentioned is located in the Bedrock Hold Approach area in Primordia. To get there, head to the Greater Gemini Bridge landmark, head across the bridge to the west, and then approach the quest marker. From there, simply jump up the cliff as Liesel does in the cutscene, and you’ll reach the spot.

After a sentimental conversation between you, Liesel, and Alicia, you will have completed the quest, unlocking Hraesvelg as a purchasable Skell in Armory Alley, as well as unlocking Liesel as a playable party member, along with her unique armor set.

What Makes Hraesvelg Unique

Aside from the unique design of the Hraesvelg Skell, the primary difference between it and every other available Skell in the game is that you cannot alter or change out any of its equipment. However, to make up for its lack of customization options, the Hraesvelg is equipped with several unique weapons that cannot be obtained anywhere else or used on any other Skell.

We found this Skell model very useful for buying and assigning to reserve party members since it requires little investment in terms of buying and equipping weapons and armor. Once you buy the Skell, that’s all you need. If you’re trying to train up party members you don’t use often, the Hraesvelg is a good way to give them some guaranteed firepower.

With the power of Liesel and her Hraesvelg at your side, combating the wild and dangerous lifeforms across Mira will be all the more manageable for ensuring the survival of the human race.
