Much of your adventure in Atomfall will center around hunting for Atomic Batteries. These retro-futuristic power cells are necessary to run the advanced technology inside the Interchange, but in the five years since the Windscale Disaster the few functioning ones have been scattered all across the Quarantine Zone.
Whether you’re trying to escape as quickly as possible or you just want to gather every Atomic Battery because you can, this guide will help you gather enough cells to activate the Data Stores and reach the Oberon Site… what you do when you get there, of course, is up to you.
Where To Find Atomic Batteries
At minimum, you’ll need five Atomic Batteries to open the way to Oberon. If you want to extract a piece of the meteor using the industrial drill at the site, you’ll need two more (though those can be obtained onsite if you prefer).
The first Atomic Battery, used to power up Central Processing, is on the dead body right next to the console in that room. You can get it when you first enter the Interchange by any entrance. For the rest, you’ll need to explore the Quarantine Zone.
Batteries In Slatten Dale
Molly Jowett has an Atomic Battery that she’s willing to trade for. Her camp is located at 26.4E, 79.1. When you buy it, she’ll also mention that she sold another one to the Vicar.
Batteries In Wyndham Village
Morris at the Hardware Shop has another Battery to trade.
The Vicar at the church keeps a Battery in a locked chest upstairs; either help him silence Morris to get the Battery as a reward, or kill him and take the key for yourself.
You can take the Batteries from the combat robots patrolling the streets, but given how many soldiers there are as well this isn’t recommended.
Batteries In Casterfell Woods
The High Priestess of the Druids has an Atomic Battery. Enter the castle in the southwest corner of the map and get the castle key from the storeroom on the left side of the building. Use it on the hidden lock on the wall behind the throne to reach the caves.
The High Priestess preaches at the lowest section of the caves; sneak or fight your way to her and take the Battery from her once she’s dead. Be careful not to knock her into the Oberite pit, or she’ll take the Battery with her.
Billy Gorse, a trader with a camp at 21.5E, 89.6N, also has a Battery to sell.
The Dam Data Store in the northeast is protected by a flamethrower robot; defeating it will let you take its Battery.
Batteries On Skethermoor
Nora Thorndike runs a smuggling operation out of her barn at 41.2E, 78.3N. Visit Alf at the Grendel’s Head Pub in Wyndham, then tell her he sent you, and trade for the Atomic Battery she has.
The Vehicle Depot at 43.4E, 74.6N has a Battery in its locked storage room. Get the key from the beds in the bunkroom, then use it to unlock the door at the rear right of the main area. Use a Radiation Resistance med or carefully avoid the piles of uranium and make your way through the storeroom to get the Battery.
There are several robots patrolling Skethermoor; defeat them to extract their Batteries if you’re up to the challenge.
What To Do With Atomic Batteries
Atomic Batteries are used to power the Data Store Terminals at sites Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta in the Interchange. Each requires a single Atomic Battery. Turning on the Data Stores will unlock more areas of the Interchange, letting you piece together the mystery and find more supplies if you’re willing to brave the depths.
Each Battery takes up a slot in your inventory. For this reason, it’s a good idea to stash any you find at the nearest bunker’s Pneumatic Storage Tube, and retrieve them when you’re about to place them at the Interchange. Each Data Store has a Tube nearby, so you can usually wait until the last second to get a stored Battery.
