How To Beat Robots In Atomfall

Outlaws, soldiers, and even Ferals are all reasonable threats in Atomfall. As long as you’re careful about positioning in melee, or are willing to spend a few rounds of ammo to finish the fight quickly, you can usually win a one-on-one fight with any of them. Robots are another thing altogether.

Fallout: 12 Best Robots In The Games

These are the most memorable robots in the Fallout series.

With their enormous size, heavy weapons, and thick metal plating, robots are the most dangerous enemies in the Quarantine Zone. You should always think twice before engaging one, and if you do have to fight a robot, you should only do so when you’re fully prepared with a strategy in mind.

How To Beat Flamethrower Robots

Flamethrower robots are easy to spot, as they have several bright red fuel canisters on their frame; one on each shoulder, and another hanging from one wrist. They don’t have as long a range as their machine-gun-toting counterparts, but if one catches you with its burst of fire, you’re cooked – literally.

Craft and use a bottle of Burn Salve before attempting to take down a flamethrower bot. It can pre-emptively prevent you from suffering the Burn status effect, saving your life.

Stay out of the robot’s sight until you have an opportunity to get directly behind it; then, with a reasonably accurate weapon like a pistol or rifle, shoot one of the shoulder fuel canisters until it explodes.

It’s best if you can destroy the canister on the first volley, but if you have to retreat to avoid getting burned, do so.

The explosion from the fuel canister should be enough to trigger the robot’s emergency heat venting, which will cause it to kneel down and stop attacking. While it does so, run up to it and remove the Atomic Battery from its back. This will render it inert unless you put the battery back in.

The only reason to power a defeated robot back up is for the Batteries Not Included Achievement/Trophy, since it will go right back to attacking you. Save your game, put the battery back in, then immediately load your file.

The Best Robots In Video Games

Creating robotic characters leaves plenty of room for creativity – here are the most memorable from various games.

How To Beat A Machine Gun Robot

Machine gun robots have much fewer weak points than flamethrowers, and they have deadly range and accuracy. If one spots you, get to cover immediately or your health bar will be torn to shreds.

Like Burn Salve with flamethrowers, crafting and using Painkillers before fighting a machine gun robot can help reduce the damage you take from their constant stream of bullets.

If you’re going to fight a machine gun robot, it pays to have a machine gun of your own. An automatic rifle, ideally one with a scope like the Modified JM-3, is your best bet for dealing with them. Range, accuracy, and rate of fire are all essential, as you need to be able to hit reliably between the robot’s salvos.

The robot’s weak point is the glass dome on top of its head – or, more accurately, the control panel beneath it. Shooting through the glass will damage the components, reducing the robot’s accuracy. It will still be able to determine your location based on your own gunfire, though, so keep using cover between shots.

Continue shooting at the same location, ducking behind cover to avoid the robot’s counterattacks; you have to face the robot head-on, unless you can get the high ground and shoot from above. After enough damage to the head, the robot will enter emergency mode, just like the flamethrower bot. As before, run up and extract the battery.

Getting hit while extracting the battery will interrupt the process, so quickly eliminate nearby soldiers before attempting your run on the bot. The last thing you want is for time to run out and for the robot to get back up while you’re right next to it.
