Aratra is a massive man-eater spider, written to be powerful enough to slice a human in half using its fangs. This is the fifth boss in The First Berserker: Khazan, and players can find it near the end of Skoffa Cave. From the Bottom of the Cave (Blade Nexus), go forward and deal with the elite enemies and monkeys to reach the traversable gate. Players can also open a shortcut from the Blade Nexus by kicking the tree beside the boss gate.

How To Avoid |
---|---|---|
Double Bite |
|
Aratra readies itself and leans forward to bite twice. Brink Guard works best here, but be prepared to guard again immediately after the first bite. |
Double Poke |
|
The boss uses its fangs to poke at the player twice. If the fangs are coated in venom, your poison meter will increase. |
Horizontal Strikes |
|
Aratra performs multiple horizontal strikes. It’s best to guard against these and attempt a Brink Guard once you’ve mastered the timing. |
Double Leg Stomp |
|
The boss begins with a horizontal strike, then leaps forward and stabs the ground. Brink Guarding is ideal, as the boss takes a few seconds to pull its legs out, giving you an opportunity for a quick combo. |
Venom Throw |
|
Aratra pulls one leg back, coats it in venom, and throws it at the player. A well-timed dodge will prevent both damage and poison buildup. |
Leap into Body Slam |
|
The boss backs up before leaping toward you and slamming its body down. Delay your Brink Guard as the boss takes a couple of seconds to hit the ground. |
Front Leg Slams |
|
Aratra starts by performing multiple leg stomps and can transition into any attack. By the time the boss uses this move, you should be able to recognize most of its attacks and react accordingly. |
4-Hit Burst Combo |
|
The boss starts this attack with a leg strike, followed by a double poke, and finishes with a Burst Attack. Countering the Burst Attack is crucial, as staggering the boss gives you a window to deal significant damage before it recovers. |
Venom Web |
|
Aratra throws a web that briefly entangles the player and increases poison buildup. As soon as you see the animation for this attack, dodge immediately, as the boss can follow up with a grab. |
Venom Grab |
|
The boss uses its mouth to grab the player, dealing significant damage. Dodge as soon as you hear the audio cue. |
Cave Retreat |
|
Aratra retreats toward the wall and climbs into the cave, regenerating all broken parts before leaping down. You can temporarily interrupt this by throwing a javelin while it climbs. After that, be ready to guard against the slam. |
Venom Legs |
|
The boss pulls back both legs, coats them in venom, and then strikes, causing poison buildup. Back away as soon as you see it preparing the attack. |

How To Beat Aratra In The First Berserker: Khazan
Before discussing the boss fight itself, there’s something all players should do first. During the battle, Aratra can occasionally summon small spiders to ambush you from the caves around the arena. However, there’s a way to prevent this. Throughout Skoffa Cave, you’ll find several narrow pathways leading to barrels. Use these barrels to blow up the small caves and eliminate the spiders inside them, stopping them from interfering in the fight.
After this is done, return to the boss and start the fight. Most of Aratra’s attacks are simple to guard against or dodge, but the real concern is the poison buildup. Poison Cleanse Potions are extremely useful when your meter is full, and you need to cure the effect. You can buy more from the Bard, who can be found inside Embars Temple and Skoffa Cave. If you have any Poison-Resistant Necklaces or Rings, it’s best to equip them for this fight as well.
Aratra has two types of Burst Attacks, which it can perform either during other attacks or as standalone moves. Both are heavily delayed, so be patient and wait before counterattacking. Mistiming your response will cost you stamina and put you in a risky situation.
The boss has three breakable parts: its frontal legs and abdomen. Destroying the legs leaves it vulnerable and prevents fang attacks, while breaking the abdomen stops its Venom attacks. These parts regenerate when Aratra retreats to the cave. When the boss tries to retreat, it climbs the wall—this is the perfect moment to throw your Javelin at its back, making it fall and take significant damage.
After defeating the boss and completing the mission, you will unlock the Blacksmith. However, you must first complete a Bonus Mission to craft and dismantle gear.
