Summary
- Tyler Galpin made a strong impression in season 1 without being Wednesday’s love interest.
- Jenna Ortega confirms no romantic plots for Wednesday in season 2.
- Season 2 may explore a darker storyline between Wednesday and Tyler at Nevermore Academy.
Even before he was revealed as the Hyde Monster, Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) made an impression on Wednesday fans. Even fans who don’t think Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) should have a love interest couldn’t help but find Tyler to be endearing and compelling. Wednesday and Tyler become fast friends as neither one fits in, and even though Wednesday is used to being on her own, she forms some important connections when she begins attending Nevermore Academy.
Jenna Ortega said a darker Wednesday season 2 is on the way and that her beloved character won’t have any romantic plotlines. But even though Wednesday and Tyler won’t go on any dates or attend any school dances together, are they going to remain friends, or could they experience conflict in Wednesday season 2?

Could Wednesday Season 2 Pit Wednesday And Tyler Against Each Other?
If Tyler Galpin isn’t Wednesday Addams’s love interest in Wednesday season 2, does that mean that they could spend the season fighting? Although it’s possible that Tyler’s main second season storyline could be teaming up with Wednesday and assisting her as she finds her stalker, what if Tyler was the stalker? This would be a big, fun, and exciting twist that would feel satisfying. Since it looks like, based on the teaser for the new episodes, Tyler is spending time at a hospital called Willow Hill, perhaps Tyler is working with someone who is a Nevermore Academy student or teacher. Maybe he wants to get revenge on Wednesday for outing him as the Hyde Monster in season 1.
There is another possibility for Tyler’s season 2 character arc: what if he pretends to be the villain and then reveals himself to be a kind character in the end? Maybe Tyler works with Wednesday’s stalker and pretends to be evil so he can help and protect Wednesday. Maybe he still considers her a good friend and feels badly about hurting people as the Hyde Monster. Since Tyler is used to keeping secrets, it’s possible to imagine him doing this. Tyler also knows that Mrs. Thornhill/Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci) was in charge of him in the first season, and he might carry around a lot of guilt and regret.
Perhaps the Wednesday season 2 finale could feature a Wednesday/Tyler battle and she could figure out once and for all if Tyler is her friend or her foe. Depending on how this fight ends, this could lead to a great storyline for Wednesday season 3. Maybe Tyler will run away from Willow Hill, change back into the Hyde Monster, and at the last minute, decide to lean into his evil side. That would be a fun twist that would make for a mysterious and intriguing third season as Wednesday wouldn’t know who to trust. It’s also possible that Tyler could get killed and then a potential third season could see Wednesday grieving the loss of her friend and wondering how to move forward.
Maybe Wednesday season 2 will reveal a group of Hyde Monsters who go after Wednesday and other Nevermore students such as Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers). It would also be cool if some Addams Family characters like Cousin Itt make cameos or bigger appearances in order to help Wednesday fight these creatures. Whether or not Tyler wants to embrace his good or dark side, it would be fun to see monsters circling Nevermore Academy.
In a 2022 interview with Digital Spy, Hunter Doohan talked about what could have happened to Tyler Galpin when Wednesday season 1 concluded. He said:
“I do think he escaped at the end. When I read that on the page, I was so excited. I was like: ‘Come on, don’t be dead, don’t be dead.’ I think he was being controlled by Miss Thornhill, and then he had to go manipulate Wednesday to carry out their plan. And I think he did a pretty good job with it.”
Since Tyler is coming back for the second season and the teaser showed him at Willow Hill, he’s definitely still alive. It remains to be seen whether he will make it out of Willow Hill or remain there throughout the whole season. While it will be fun to see if Lady Gaga performs at Nevermore Academy and what her character is like in general, fans also look forward to seeing what’s coming up for Tyler Galpin.
