Despite often going under the radar, these One Piece arcs still offer plenty of lore, character development, and world building.
Being able to sizzle up some meat or fish is one thing, but considering the ravenous appetite of characters like Luffy and Big Mom, a good chef should always be able to create large and wonderful meals that are guaranteed to leave their customers satisfied. It’s time to set the table and lay out the cutlery, as this list will be taking a closer look at the very best cooks who have appeared throughout the long-running story of One Piece.
1
Thatch
Thatch Kept Whitebeard’s Appetite In Check Until He Met His Untimely Death
- First Appearance: Episode 325
Though Thatch was the cook of the legendary Whitebeard crew, many fans remember him as the guy who Blackbeard murdered so that he could get his hands on the immensely powerful Yami Yami no Mi fruit. The truth is, barely anything is known about Thatch considering he was taken out so unexpectedly, but being able to provide food for someone as large as Whitebeard means he was presumably one of the very best chefs out there.
Thatch was also shown to be an incredibly welcoming member of the crew who was more than happy to invite Ace on board the Moby Dick, despite Luffy’s brother not seeming all that excited about the idea at first. Credit also needs to be given to Thatch’s design, which sees him rocking a suave and stylish pompadour with a dark goatee, which helps him stand out among the wild cast of crewmates that accompany him.
2
Patty
One Of Sanji’s Fellow Baratie Chefs Is As Passionate About Cooking As They Come
- First Appearance: Episode 21
Fans will remember Patty as the big, brash, and bombastic chef who works alongside Sanji in Baratie near the beginning of the series. Above all else, Patty cares about the customer and is shown to be extremely determined to serve up only the very best food possible for people to enjoy. Though he only showed up in a few scenes, Patty was shown to be somewhat of a big older brother to Sanji, who would constantly have banter with him, despite still having much respect for the man who would eventually become a Straw Hat pirate.

His explosive passion for cooking made Patty an extremely fun character to follow, but what has also made him memorable to many fans is his flashy design. The giant smile he can always be seen wearing, paired with his comically large hands make him seem like One Piece‘s version of Popeye, but while he doesn’t stick around for too long, Patty is still a chef that steals every scene he’s in thanks to his infectious charisma.
3
Lucky Roux
The Mysterious Member Of Shanks’ Crew Has Been Keeping His Gang Fueled Up In Their Dangerous Endeavors
- First Appearance: Episode 4
Not much is known about most members of the Red Hair pirates, and that certainly includes the chef of the crew, Lucky Roux. One thing is for certain though, Lucky Roux is a pirate who loves food, as he can always be seen snacking on a juicy chunk of meat on the rare occasions that he does show up on screen. However, the mystery surrounding Lucky Roux is what has made him so fascinating to many fans of the series.
While small tidbits of information have been revealed regarding other members like Yasopp and Ben Beckman, Lucky Roux remains an enigma. However, Lucky Roux has to be a talented chef to have kept such a ferocious band of warriors going for as long as he has, though it does feel as though he’s a cook who prefers preparing pretty standard and ordinary meals rather than getting too fancy with his cuisines.
4
Hachi
Hachi Prefers To Use His Blades For Preparing Takoyaki Rather Than Fighting
- First Appearance: Episode 31
Hatchan, or Hachi as he’s commonly known in the series, first showed up as one of Arlong’s lackeys near the beginning of the story. While the octopus was skilled enough at wielding multiple blades at once in combat, it’s not long before it’s revealed that he is a pretty gifted chef, and would rather be cooking than using his swords for battle. When he was still working for Arlong, Hachi was in charge of feeding the gigantic Sea Cow known as Momoo, but would eventually be lucky enough to serve up some of his fresh takoyaki balls for Luffy and the Straw Hat crew.
As someone who goes from minor antagonist to a close ally of the Straw Hats, Hachi is a pretty interesting character and one who shows that Fishmen don’t always need to be blinded by their feelings of resentment against humans. Though it would have been nice to have gotten a few more scenes of Hachi whipping up some of his unique dishes, he does still earn his own comedic cover story which sees him venturing around the sea floor and showing off his food to the locals.
5
Charlotte Chiffon
Chiffon Stepped Up To The Plate And Showcased Her Unmatched Baking Expertise When It Truly Mattered
- First Appearance: Episode 783
Chiffon, like many of her siblings, was treated pretty badly by Big Mom when she was younger, which led her to eventually run off with none other than Bege Capone. As a result, she’s somewhat of a nomad by the time the Whole Cake Island arc begins, but upon seeing the carnage that Big Mom is causing, she decides to do her part in baking the cake. In all honesty, there’s a good chance that if she hadn’t been involved, the final product might not have been able to quench Big Mom’s cravings.

One Piece games have become more common in recent years, and while not always great, the franchise has produced a couple of gems.
When creating the cake, Chiffon states she has a secret recipe that will ensure the cake is as soft and fluffy as possible in its texture. Being the most well-known chiffon cake baker in all of Whole Cake has its perks. Chiffon also adds a lot of humor to this very intense section of the story, and she has a pretty intriguing relationship with the Fire Tank pirates, which is explored throughout a cover story.

Charlotte Pudding
Sanji’s Bride-To-Be Shows Off Her Excellent Culinary Skills When Helping Out With Big Mom’s Cake
- First Appearance: Episode 571
When Big Mom starts going on a hunger-induced rampage near the end of the Whole Cake Island arc, Pudding, who was initially tasked with murdering Sanji during their wedding, decides to help the Straw Hat bake a cake to try and quell the chaos. Since Pudding runs her chocolate café on Caocao Island, she was able to play a big part in making the cake as tasty as possible for Big Mom to enjoy, though the fact she ended up in this position only came after a pretty wild series of events.
Though Pudding is initially going to trick Sanji into marrying her for the sake of Big Mom, after the Straw Hat compliments her third eye, Pudding begins to fall for Sanji and his chivalrous charm. Her constant dilemma between hating and admiring Sanji makes her an incredibly fun and memorable member of the Big Mom Pirates, and someone who goes through quite an interesting character arc.
7
Zeff
A Master Chef Who Taught Sanji Everything He Knows About Cooking And Chivalry
- First Appearance: Episode 20
Before Sanji would venture across the seas in search of the All Blue with his nakama, he would be a student of the legendary cook known as Zeff. While the two didn’t get along initially, Sanji came to respect Zeff after they both woke up stranded on a deserted island, with Zeff giving Sanji the last of their rations, causing him to eat his own leg to survive. This simple act shows just how passionate Zeff feels about feeding those who need it most, and when looking at the mouth-watering meals he cooks up in Baratie, it’s clear he knows exactly how to fill up a stranger’s belly when they come knocking at his door.
Zeff would also be the one to teach Sanji his chivalrous ways, including his code of never hitting a woman, which Sanji has always abided by since the very beginning of the story. Overall, the top chef of the Baratie is a truly inspirational and memorable character whose charm is only outmatched by his skills in the kitchen.

Sanji
Sanji Will Continue Cooking Up Delicious Meals For His Crew Until He Reaches The All Blue
- First Appearance: Episode 20
It’s not long after Luffy meets Sanji that the latter tells him about his lifelong dream of seeing the All Blue, a mythical place where all four of the world’s seas collide, resulting in a plethora of unique fish that can be used for some incredible recipes. This revelation makes it clear that Sanji has an obsession with food, and thankfully, fans get to see Sanji’s rice bowls, meat banquets, and luxurious cocktails being served aboard the Sunny many times during the Straw Hats’ grand adventure.
Sanji’s culinary skills have even been used in combat, specifically in his battle with Wanze aborad the Soul Train, where he chopped up his arms with nothing more than a single slice. As a character, Sanji has come a very long way since his debut in Baratie, and with his backstory now being out in the open after Whole Cake, he’s able to feel like a confident cook who can dedicate all of his focus on keeping his nakama fed until they reach the legendary One Piece treasure.
