Dune: Awakening is confirmed to be getting a full release on May 20, 2025, on PC, putting to bed any speculation of an early access launch. Over two years after its reveal, Dune: Awakening is set to bring an MMORPG spin on the highly popular sci-fi franchise, Dune. Spearheaded by Funcom, a Tencent-owned developer, the upcoming game has been on the radar of fans since being announced in August 2022.
Set in an alternate timeline, the open-world survival game puts players into the shoes of an unnamed prisoner on a quest to track down the Fremen, while working with either House Atreides or House Harkonnen. Back in February 2025, Funcom revealed the PC release date and other information about Dune: Awakening, which would land on consoles later down the road. In an announcement on Steam, Creative Director Joel Bylos shared that the game will have a full-fledged launch on May 20, instead of being available as an early-access title for limited users. He underlined that it will come with no monthly subscription involved, unlike other popular MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14.
Dune: Awakening Will Have Free Major Updates
Briefing interested gamers about Dune: Awakening‘s future roadmap, the Funcom lead said that regular updates will bring fresh content and additional features, along with quality-of-life improvements. Bylos added that there will be “major” free updates that add to the game’s story. These are planned to roll out in tandem with optional DLCs, the latter of which could either be purchased individually or through the Season Pass, which comes with “several” DLCs.
Moreover, the post accompanying his announcement shed light on the technical information related to Dune: Awakening, including PC system requirements. The game will also support the major frame-generation technologies, namely Nvidia DLSS 4, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS 2. Additionally, the forthcoming Dune game adaptation is compatible with Razer Chroma RGB and Razer Sensa HD Haptics, offering owners of relevant Razer products a tailored experience.
